Week 5 Picks

Posted on by • 0 comment

So lots of different choices this week, but the Giants definitely seem to be the most popular pick.  Booo to Bart for going against the Steelers, and Hah! to Tyler for going against the Rangers.  I am pulling for the Seahawks, just to shake things up.    Off to Austin to watch Bart play.  Good thing I loaded up on corny dogs and funnel cakes at the Texas State Fair yesterday to build up my strength for the long drive.

Week 4 Results

A few people took a hit this weekend.  Add Bart, Grandpa Bill, and Christian to the people with 1 strike against ’em.  We are 1/4 of the way through the season, and I think that we’re all getting smarter as to who is good, and we’ve also all used up a few of our “safe” picks.  Should get interesting from here on in.  Try to get your picks in on time this week, as Saturday, I am heading out of town early (to go watch Bart play footie in Austin), and I would love to get this knocked out without incident.  Also, I have heard that Tyler is cheering for the Rays against the Rangers.  Not cool man, just not cool.   And, Happy Birthday shout out to Adam (and Dana – even though she’s not in the league).  Hope you had a good day filled with cake.

Week 4 picks

Posted on by • 0 comment

Here are the picks for week 4.  We have lots of different teams being chosen this week, so I am thinking there is potential to have some people get a strike.  And, don’t question Christian for his insanely bad pick of Oakland – that’s what you get when your pick isn’t in by the time I am sitting down to do this.  Bill picked the Bills – favoritism?  Bart went rogue again with the Browns.  And a lot of people finally going with the superbowl champion Packers.  I’m surprised it took this long.  Good luck to all.  (Send in your money!)

Week 3 Results

Clearly all my cheering against the Chargers didn’t pay off.  Everyone made it through unscathed this week, although some of us had a closer scrape than others (thanks for the 4th quarter heroics, Polamalu!). Here are the results.  Now we look to Week 4, and see if Bart can again pick a team all by himself.

Week 3 Picks

So, it looks like the Bolts are the big pick this week.  The Hergenrother men, Emily (and Kevin) will be pulling for the Steelers.  When Grandpa Bill made his pick this week, he expressed concern that all of us might be in it to the end and then we’d have to figure out how to split the money.  So, for his sake, I am hoping the Chargers lose this week.  Just to put his mind at ease…

Week 2 Results

Here are the results from Week 2.  Only a couple of dings (sorry Bailey and Charlie H.).  I do wonder, though, what kind of cross-discipline curriculum about taking unnecessary risks  was going on at Marquette 20 years ago: both Bart and Celia’s games came down to the wire.

Also, a big shout out and a gold star to the men of Columbia who got their $$$ in.  Thanks!

Week 2 Picks

Ok, team.  We’re staggering out of the starting blocks, but it looks like everyone’s in.  If you could please take a second to also welcome our late comer – Cecilia.  The Lillegards are actually working as a team, but for trash talking’s sake I have her listed just as Cecilia on the list.
Let’s take a quick minute here too to talk about following instructions.  First off, you’re supposed to pick winners – so for those of you who picked the Lions (Charlie N. and Tyler – I’m talkin’ to you), I can only assume that you know what you are doing.
And, there was a bit of confusion about sending in your pick this week.  Send it via email, only to me, by bedtime on Friday.  I would like to think I am naturally funny and organized, but my Saturdays get busy, and I need to make sure I have time to put together a pretty list and a post to go with it.  I need Saturday for that.  Get it in on time.  Don’t make me beg.
I have heard that some people have had trouble getting onto the comments section of the blog.  I have tried to simplify this process by setting the blog to accept comments from anyone.  Let’s try this.  If it doesn’t work, then we’ll try something else.
Here are the picks.  Good luck to everyone.  Now, go and put $10 in the mail to your favorite relative…

The Rules

Welcome to the Nemmers Family King of the Hill Football Pool, 2011 NFL edition. While the main goal is for everyone to have fun, it seems like a few rules and guidelines usually help these things along. That way, at the end, there will be no arguments when I take your money.

Here’s how it will work:
1. Each week players will  pick the winner of one NFL Game.
2. If your team wins, you move on to the next week. If your team loses, you get a strike against you.    When you lose a second game, you are out.
3. You may pick a team only one time per season.
4. Last man standing (aka King of the Hill), gets to keep all the money.
Cost to play: $10. Checks made payable to Emily Mantooth. (My birthday is in a couple weeks, you can just throw the money in the card you know you are going to be sending me).
Now the details:
1. On weeks there is a no Thursday game, picks are due by end of day on Friday. Weeks there are Thursday games, then I need picks by end of day Wednesday.
2. If you don’t get your pick in on time, you will be assigned a crappy “team of the week”. So, get your picks in on time, or you may be forced to cheer for the Bills.  (Too bad William and Mary isn’t in the NFL.)
3. You are out on the occasion of your second loss. However; you are still allowed to talk smack to Adam until the end of the season.
4. Grandpa Bill is only allowed to pick the Bears once, but is not required to do so.
5. I will post the pick sheet here each week before games start on Sunday, and will post the standings sheet on Tuesdays.
6. It is your own responsibility to make sure you don’t pick a team you have already used. If I catch it, I will let you know and hopefully you can get a legal pick in on time. If I don’t catch it, then you will get a strike for that week.
7. If we get to the end of the season and we have a tie, the winners may decide if they would like to split the pot, or they may arm wrestle for winner-take-all in Columbia at the holidays.
8. Use the comments section of this blog to converse about the Scrum. If you want to – you can subscribe to the blog and see the posts via email whenever anyone comes up with something to say. Or, you can just check in from time to time to get a pulse on the group. Please remember that minors (and Dad) are playing, so let’s keep it G-rated. Or, at least PG-13.
9. Thanks to everyone for playing. I think it will be fun.
