Week 13 Picks: Swim with the Fishes

Posted on by • 0 comment

Happy Gobble Gobble, Footballers,

I hope you all had nice holidays full of family and laughter and pie.  Ours was nice, except for the fact that John Sherburn kept talking trash the whole time.  He almost had me tricked into thinking that going with Houston was going to be the way to go this weekend.  But, in the end, I stuck with my gut – and submitted my pick to the assistant commish (Kevin).

Turns out John had the same idea.  So, both of us are for Miami this weekend.  Win or lose, the two of us will be back at it next weekend. There was significant time spent by Jim, Kevin, John, Margie and myself trying to determine the fair way to move forward.  But, I didn’t make my pick until Friday,  so it was too late to change it up this week, with so many games already past on Thursday.

Suffice it to say, next week, we’ll both have to pick more than one.  A sure thing, and then at least one other.  John also said if we couldn’t settle it on the field, he’d challenge me to a 100 meter free style race to sort it out.  I’m pretty sure I could take him.  Although he did mention something about flip turns like Michael Phelps….

Anyway, here’s the picks. Sorry we made everyone wait until Monday.

Emily

Week 12 Results: Hanging in There

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

My apologies for the weird mid-week check in.  I wasn’t sure that everyone was all in on being up to date with the last two teams standing, but Kevin said I was slacking and to get to it.  So, here it is.

In week 12 both remaining players survived.  The picks will only continue to get harder.    And, I’m laughing that John and Margie didn’t follow my advice and pick Oakland – they would have actually won.

Since there isn’t much to talk about with the pool, I’ll just leave you all with the most amazing catch in the history of the NFL….that was squandered in a Giants/Cowboys regular season game…

Week 11 Results – Boom goes the dynamite!

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

What a crazy weekend it was, and I’m not just talking about the weather.  Surprising defeats of Denver and New Orleans and Washington blew up the pool and spelled the end for Adam, Gerri, Paul and Tyler.  So, so sad to see you all go.  With just the afternoon games to go, I can’t say I have ever cheered so hard for Green Bay to loose. Sadly, they didn’t comply with all the instructions I was shouting at the TV.  But, at least the Steelers managed to pull it out last night (did you stay up and watch that fourth quarter???), and so those geniuses in San Antonio are gonna have to work a little harder to get a repeat on their season championship.

The scrum is down to 2 (kinda 3) players:  Team Sherburne (John and Margie) and then  me.   Clearly, you know who to be cheering for.

To keep things fair, I am going to ask that this week Team Sherburne sends its pick to Kevin, and I will too, and that way we won’t see each others picks.  Fingers are crossed here in Dallas.

The Thursday game is Kansas City vs.  Oakland, so if you want to go that route, (Pick Oakland, John, Pick Oakland) then you need to have your pick in by kickoff.  Otherwise, end of day Friday to Kevin.

Week 11 Picks – A Tough Week

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

While some of you turkeys might be getting your act together for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, for 6 of us – there is still football picking to do.  And, this week was a tough one.  Bad teams playing other bad teams.  Good teams playing good teams. Teams with losing records favored over teams with winning records. Obvious choices were used up weeks ago.  Perhaps that explains why with only 6 people left, there are 5 different games being selected this week.

As Adam pointed out to me – Pittsburgh is a crazy pick, as no one has won with them all season.  Right back atcha, Adam, as the same could be said for the Redskins.  And, team Sherburne was hedging their bet, making Green Bay their pick…”for now.”  I did remind them that they can’t change at 3:30 on Sunday afternoon.

Good luck to all.  Hope you are staying warm out there.

Week 10 Results: Down to 6

Good morning Footballers,

With so many different choices this past week, it was not surprising that someone would get it wrong.  I’m sad that it was the Steelers that decided not to show up on Sunday; putting an end to Gerri’s impressive win streak and ending Stephanie’s time in the pool.

With six weeks to go, there are six players remaining:  Gerri, Adam, Emily, Paul, Team Sherburne, and Tyler.  Should be interesting.

The Thursday night game is Buffalo vs. Miami.  I double-dog dare one of you to pick this game.  Otherwise, get your picks in by end of day Friday.

Week 10 Picks – Lots of choices

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

For only 7 people left in the pool, we have a surprising 5 different picks this week.  Seems like the easy choices must be running out.

Gerri has made mention that we as a group are not talking enough smack this year.  So, if you feel the need to say a little something sassy, now would be the time to do so.  (Also, you can just do it in the email, as I’m not sure how much y’all are reading the blog).

Good luck to everyone except Paul and Tyler – boooo Ravens.

Week 9 Results – everyone’s a winner

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope you had a weekend full of Halloween fun and got your clocks all re-adjusted.

The teams that were supposed to win both did, so all 7 remaining players moved on.  Gerri is impressively still undefeated after 9 weeks of brutal competition.  Well done!

This Thursday is Cleveland vs. Cincy.  So, if you have those teams left and want to pick, make sure to get it in before kick-off.  Otherwise, end of day Friday is fine.  We’re all starting to run out of obvious picks, so it should get interesting…

Week 9 Picks, and I Missed Something.

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope that everyone had a great Halloween.  We had a good time around here and have ended up with a good amount of candy.  My belly just hurts thinking about all the reeses cups I ate.

Speaking of things that make my belly hurt, it came to my attention that last week Bailey used New England as a pick for the second time. I didn’t catch it.  So, that’s a strike, and she has now be eliminated.  She was notified and has agreed to use her prowess to win with her dad’s account.  (So, all future cheering for Adam is really for Bailey).

Here are this week’s picks – just Cincy and KC.  Best of luck to the 7 remaining.

Oh, and don’t forget to turn back your clocks tonight.  I’d hate to have you show up an hour late for kick off tomorrow.
