Week 8 Results

Posted on by • 0 comment

After wiping my tears of despair from being kicked out with Charlie Hergenrother this week, I managed to compose myself just long enough to see the ghost of Walter Payton swoop in to save the Chicago game for Bailey and Kevin.  Doesn’t get any closer than that.  Well picked by the others, who all had pretty big blow outs. Only 6 remaining now, so choose wisely!  If you want the Chiefs or Chargers, I need your pick before kickoff on Thursday.  Pats, Jets, Rams and 49ers have the bye (making it that much tougher to pick this week).  Good luck to all, and Happy Halloween!

Week 8 Picks – the numbers are shrinking!

Posted on by • 0 comment

Sorry so late this week.  Just catching up from being away from home.  And, I am sad to report, the Scrum numbers are down to 6 contestants.  This is doubly sad for me, as one of the players who picked incorrectly on Thursday night (stupid Vikings!) was yours truly.  Take a minute to say goodbye to me and to Charlie Hergenrother.  You realize now, that there are only a few left to defeat the mighty Howie?  Or maybe you should all be concerned about dark horse (and previous winner), Paul.

Either way – good luck to those still in it.  Only 3 games of interest this week, so it could be interesting!

Week 7 results – the football-pool gods were smiling

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,
I hope everyone has made it home safe and is catching up on their sleep after the big wedding weekend.  Clearly, the football pool gods didn’t want to shake things up while no one was watching; as everyone got their picks right this past weekend.  Hooray for that.

Sorry so late to be getting this out.  Remember to get your picks in early.  The Thursday night game is Tampa Bay vs. the Vikings, and the teams that have a bye this week are:  Ravens, Bills, Bengals, Texans.  Double check your work to make sure that you aren’t picking a repeat – that starts to happen as we get to the middle of the season.

Good luck to all.  Saturday is the school carnival, so I probably won’t have the picks up until late in the day.

Week Six Results – the end of perfect Howie

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,
Here are the results for week six.  With losses by Pittsburgh and Arizona we 5 people have been eliminated, and Howie Senn has his first strike. Take a moment to say adieu to Adam. And, if it weren’t for a last second field goal in Atlanta, it could have just been me, Bailey and Howie left at all.  Kevin saw right through my fake cheering for Atlanta for him, I really wanted Oakland to pull that one out!  Oh, back down to it for week 7.  I think everyone left will be in D.C. this weekend, so you can just tell me your pick when you see me (and pay me).

P.s.  As for the Nemmers Brothers duel; I’m not sure how to score it.  Bill’s team won (barely), and Charlie N. picked a team that had a bye week – so they didn’t lose, but didn’t really win either.  Again, I think a 40 yard dash would be an easier way to settle this.

Week 6 Picks – Thursday night crash

Posted on by • 0 comment

Here are the picks for week 6.  They may look a bit crazy, as 4 people went with the Thursday game, and so I have posted those results here.  Sadly, the Steelers didn’t get it done, and so now we must say goodbye to 4 more players – Grandpa Bill, Gerri, Joel and Jim – thanks for playing.  There is also 2 picks in gray:  Uncle Bill and Charlie N. just can’t face the fact that they are done, so they’ve picked anyway, even if it doesn’t count. We are down to 8 now – so I will start to concoct a plan of what happens if all remaining players go out in the same week.  Or, we’ll just see if Howie can go coast to coast without a loss.

Good Luck everyone – see you in D.C.!!!

Week 5 results – the Cheeseheads couldn’t get it done.

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Here are the week 5 results.  Charlie N. and Bill N. both were eliminated when Green Bay just couldn’t pull it out in the 4th.  While this will make a pool a lot easier to keep up with (now only 1 Charlie and 1 Bill), I will be sad to see both of them (and their coded weekly pick messages) be done.

But don’t feel bad, guys.  You weren’t the only losers this weekend.  Our Texas Rangers must not have got the memo that the season lasts until October, I know Mom (even though she’s not in the pool) is trying to deal with the end of the Chipper Jones era, and the Texas State Fair pie judges clearly didn’t know a good thing when it landed on a plate in front of ’em yesterday – as there were no ribbons for me this year.  Waaah!

Ok.  On to Week 6.  Picks in by Friday – unless you want to pick the Steelers or the Titans from Thursday night’s game.  Then, I need those picks before kick off.  I haven’t looked at the line ups, but Kevin said this is gonna be a tough week – good teams playing each other and bad teams playing each other.  Please double check and make sure you don’t use a team you have already picked.

Week 5 Picks

Hello Footballers!

Sorry for the delay in getting up the picks this week.  The Great State Fair of Texas has taken over our household.  Friday we spent the day with the kids at the fair (the school district gives each kid a ticket to get in and the day off), and then today is “Pie Day”.  So, while you are all pulling for the Giants today, keep your fingers crossed that my Blueberry Lemonade Meringue wins me a pretty ribbon.

Good luck to everyone!

Week 4 results

Well, it came down to the wire in quite a few of those, but somehow everyone survived.  Man, Arizona-pickers, I thought you were DONE!!!!

Congrats to all for making it to week 5.  Go ahead and get your picks in bright and early this week.  If you are crazy enough to want to go with Arizona  or St. Louis this week, make sure to have your selection made before Thursday’s kickoff.

Also, it’s getting to that time of the season, were teams you like might start looking good again, so double check your work and make sure you don’t choose someone you’ve already used up.

Ok, and fingers crossed.  While you guys will all be cheering for your teams on Sunday, I’ll be sitting in the shadow of Big Tex over at the Texas State Fair waiting on the judgements of the pie competition.
