2019 Week 8 Results: no change in the lineup

Posted on by • 1 comment

Hi Footballers,

I hope you are having a good week.  Are you ready for Halloween?  Vi and I ended up giving out all our candy at the local church Trunk or Treat, so I have to go get more candy…and then eat it all myself on Friday because we don’t usually have many kids come by.

This week, there was some excellent football – I’m looking at you Drew Brees, and some mediocre football (ahem – Steelers – ahem) but for what it’s worth, all the teams in the pool survived.  For two weeks now we haven’t had an elimination.  Somebody better pick the Falcons and shake this pool up!

This week’s pictures are of Heidi – on the night of her stage debut of Shrek, and of Adam (as Axel Rose) with Lisa (Rachel from Friends) and former player Bailey (Hot Rod) rocking some amazing costumes at Christian’s Halloween party at his new house this past weekend. Happy Halloween, y’all!

2019: Week 8 Picks…early birds got the win

Posted on by • 1 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.  I’m sure Paul, Kevin and Team Sherburne are resting a little easier having scored a win with Minnesota’s defeat of the Redskins on Thursday night.  Well done, y’all.

For the other players still in the race, the pics heavily lean toward the Rams, but Buffalo, New Orleans, New England and Seattle all have one picker each.  So, lots of games to keep an eye on while you are waiting for Game 5 of the World Series to roll around.

Also, I wanted to include a couple pictures from our week here in Dallas. The tornado that came through Sunday night was VERY CLOSE to our house. On the map below, the red line is the path of the tornado with 130 mph winds, and the blue dot on the bottom left is our house. So, we were ok, but we had lots of friends who lost power and trees. Traffic has been a nightmare as most roads south of us are closed and dangerous (but getting better every day).  And, we know one family who lost everything.  There were 3 schools that were a total loss in our district, and about a dozen others that were closed for a few days. Lots of private schools and businesses – including our local Home Depot and favorite neighborhood book store – are a total loss. DISD moved 3000 students to new facilities in 36 hours, and the private schools are hustling to clean up and reopen. But, it’s all so heartbreaking. So, say a little prayer for our community. They could use it.

The pictures here are of the path of the tornado from a Dallas Morning news article, (I added the dot for our house), and a picture of a high school gym that’s 3 blocks from us that got hit.

2019 Week 7 Results: Everyone gets a green light

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope you are all basking in the glow of a weekend of victory.  Congrats to everyone for picking a winner this week.

Speaking of winners, let’s all give Whoosie a big ol’ virtual high five for her amazing success in the Des Moines Half Marathon on Sunday. That’s right, while we were all watching a sodden slogfest between the 49ers and the Redskins, Whoosie was kicking butt and taking names in the women’s 70+ age group of the 13.1 mile race – placing 2nd in her division.  Such an impressive feat (and a good looking medal)!

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that the Dallas Manteeth are a-ok. The tornado that hit Dallas on Sunday evening was very near to our house. We did seek shelter on the interior of our house and wait it out. We are completely fine, we never lost power, and not a single branch is down on our street. But, lots of our neighborhood is a complete loss – from the Home Depot a couple miles west, to our favorite little book shop a couple miles east, and some schools, homes, churches, and favorite restaurants in between, there is lots of damage. So, yes we are ok, but we are also so very lucky and a little sad. One block in any direction and it could have been us.

This week, the Thursday game is Redskins at Vikings. If you’re going with this pick, send it in before kickoff. Otherwise, picks are due by end of day on Friday.

2019: Week 7 Picks. The Buffalo are Roaming

Hello Footballers,

Happy Sunday!  It looks like Buffalo is the team to watch today.  We’ll see if this anonymous bunch can get it done over the Dolphins.  Because, well, it is the Dolphins.  Other games of interest are the Raiders/Packers (go, Gabe!), and the 49ers against the coach-less Redskins.

Also a shout out today to all our own competitors….Whoosie is going to kick butt and take names in the Des Moines half marathon this morning and Vi has two more events as we enter the second day of her weekend swim meet. Way to go ladies!

Have a great day – I hope you all get some couch time.   In the meantime, here’s some photos of Team Sherburne. While we were in Springfield last weekend, they were using fall break to take advantage of the beauty that is Santa Fe, including a big ol’ bike ride down the mountain. Way to go John and Margie!

2019: Week 6 Results – only 1/2 still standing

Posted on by • 1 comment

Hello Footballers,

Well, the loss of the Cowboys gave 2 undefeated folks their first strike – sorry Adam and Jim.  And, Mahomes continues his stumble, KC losing for the second straight week…spelling the end for Mary, Fletcher and Charlie N.  Sadly, Calvin came to the end of the road too when the Steeler Nation put showed up in force out in LA and their undrafted quarterback won his first start.

What this means is that half of the teams in the pool have been eliminated.  And, only Whoosie and Paul are still undefeated.  Nice work to you both!

But, really the story was Tyler and Sydney’s wedding.  Man, did we have so much fun with all the visiting and dancing, and cake eating. Such a treat to see so many.  So much love to all of you.  I had so many pictures, but I’ll just share a few.

2019: Week 6 Picks – a short list this week

Hello Footballers,

I hope you are having a great weekend.  We are here in Springfield and I’m relived I am typing rather than writing as I am pretty hoarse from a day of visiting at Tyler and Sydney’s beautiful and amazing wedding.

This week picks centered around Baltimore and Dallas, with a few other teams thrown in for good measure.  Paul was the only one with the foresight to remember to pick the Thursday night game, and so he was alone in his winning New England Pick.

Good luck to everyone today, we’ll be listening as we drive I assume.

And, here’s my favorite picture of the night- Tyler and Sydney’s first dance.  Yay for Mr. & Mrs. Nemmers!

2019: Week 5 Results….Mahomes is not my homie

ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!  It’s only week 5 and I’m already eliminated!  At least I have company.

Hello Footballers,

This was a frustrating weekend for those of us who picked the Chiefs, Bears, and Chargers.  While the Eagles were flying, the poll saw five players take their first strike and 6 amazing women get eliminated, me included. Goodbye to Dana, Dianne, me, Gerri, Heidi and Molly. Boo.  But, props to our 4 undefeated players: Adam, Jim, Paul and Whoosie.  I wish you all luck.

On the bright side, the Dallas Manteeth managed to enjoy a corn dog at the State Fair along with some other adventures. It’s hard to be mad long if you’ve recently been for a spin on the Texas Star.

I look forward to seeing so many of you this coming weekend in Springfield.  The Thursday game is Giants / Patriots.  Get that pick in before kick off, otherwise, by end of day Friday.  But, bonus points if you are in early this week as we’ll be on the road.

2019: Week 5 Picks – Not Ruffling Feathers

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hi Footballers,

I hope you are having a good weekend.  Happy belated birthday shout outs to Adam and Dana – I hope you both got to eat lots of cake and have nice celebrations this past week!

The picks this week are spread across 5 teams, but with most picks going toward the Chiefs and the Eagles who both had pretty sizable spreads.  Also, indian chiefs and eagles both have feathers….but that’s about where the similarities end.

Today’s pictures are of people who are proud of their “babies”.  Charlie N with the Hyperloop when it visited Mizzou (the only college in the country who got a visit) and of Mary with Stephanie.  All of us in 90 degree Texas are very jealous of their cold weather gear…especially Mary’s coat – next up, a trip to Sturgis?

Good luck today to y’all, and safe travels to everyone who is headed to Springfield next weekend.  We are so excited!!!!

2019: Week 4 Results – our first goodbye

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope that everyone is having a good week. I am late to getting the results posted, as I was too busy eating the delicious birthday cake pictured below. (Thanks to Vi for making it, and to Kevin and Fletch for spoiling me too.)

This week, the WRONG Los Angeles team lost – giving me a strike, and not eliminating the 12 of you Chargers-pickers. We did have one person – Molly – who took a strike with San Diego, as she had picked them before. Let’s all take that as a reminder to double check that you haven’t used a pick already.

All told, nine players took a strike. Calvin went down early with Green Bay on Thursday night, and Stephanie dodged a bullet with Kansas City’s last minute play to keep it from being 10 of us with a strike in week 4. But, sadly for Dan, his strike was a second strike and he’s out of the pool. Dan, we are sad to see you go!  And, congrats to the 9 of you who are still strike free.

This week’s Thursday game is Rams at Seahawks. If you are bold enough to choose this game (bring on the Legion of Boom!) then I need your pick by Thursday before kickoff. Otherwise, by the end of the day Friday.

The picture below that is not the cake is from the NAMI walk in Minneapolis this past weekend….with scrum members Mary, Whoosie and Bill. I’m so glad they take the time to do this each year to honor Andy and support the important mental health work that NAMI is doing.

The countdown to Tyler and Sydney’s wedding is ON!  Can’t wait to see so many of you in less than 2 weeks!  Eek!  It’s gonna be fun!
