Happy New Year! I hope everyone has something fun planned for Sunday night. The scrum is close to wrapping up with our final two weeks. Here are your week 17 selections sorted by power picks so you can easily identify your friends and foes.
This was a rough week for the scrum. 17 of the 26 contestants ended with two points or less. Only three people shot par with a 3 and six people with high scores. Out of all of that, one contestant declared the weekend to be easy peasy – Emily stands alone with a perfect five. Congratulations to our commish! To celebrate, I’ll eat of piece of her homemade cherry pie for breakfast.
To celebrate our week winner, here is Emily reading Christmas bedtime stories. The kids have declared a while ago that they’re too old to participate. Our dog Noobie was the only willing participant.
Our scrum leaders struggled this weekend as Cassie and Whoosie only extracted two points and Gabe only one. Gerri took advantage of the open window and stormed to the top of the leaderboard. She now holds a one-point leader on Cassie and Whoosie with two weeks to go. It’s going to be a nail biter!
Week 17 selections are tough again. Even though the Cowboys are playing yet another playoff contender, we’ve had enough of them. So here we go…
Feliz Navidad! I hope you all are ready for Christmas and have reached your travel destinations. Here are the week 16 picks. Five of the teams earned a power pick this week in your selections. Several people picked Dallas to win the game, but nobody had the confidence in them to burn a power pick. The 49ers were the trendy pick this week, but when two playoff teams collide who knows what will happen. Hopefully these are some fun games to watch.
The games are spread out over the next couple days. So if you need a break from the cheer or your crazy brother-in-law is mounting a deep dive analytics explanation of putting your DH in the 3-spot rather than batting cleanup… the TV will be waiting for you. ?
Welcome back after a topsy-turvy week 15. It’s great to see so many great football minds at work. The savvy noted that Houston’s QB star CJ Stroud would miss the game and quickly jumped on the Titans bandwagon. After a quick 13-0 lead, I toasted our scrum leaders and patted myself on the back. Then something happened and we ended up in an overtime full of stalled offenses. I thought we surely headed to a tie. Then suddenly, Houston lined up for a field goal with 2s to go in overtime and won. So much for analysis.
Despite any of that, we had two ladies who ignored all that noise and coasted to an easy five-point week. Congratulations to Molly and Violet! They showed us how easy this should be.
Whoosie led the pack the last few weeks and left the door wide open after a disappointing 2-point week. She had the same picks as me – – which is never a promising sign. The other leaders were only able to make small strides, however. Cassie moved back up to a first place tie with Whoosie. Gerri used her 4-point week to pull into a comfortable third place, just one point behind the leaders.
I find myself teatering at the middle of the standings. I enjoyed my brief tour of the upper-half neighborhood, but the HOA and the current residents are trying to keep me from moving in. I am planting my party flamingos in the front lawn and committed to staying. We’ll have to see how this epic drama unfolds.
It’s getting harder every week to find close games between relevant teams with healthy QBs. We are all sick of the Cowboys, but they are in the meat of their schedule playing other playoff teams. So here we are again. However, I did manage to find games featuring all playoff contenders so I am hoping these are also televised and watchable contests.
Greetings scrumpions. Thanks to everyone for getting their picks in. When I sent out the game list, I had lost track of the first game being on a Saturday.
There were some bigger spreads on these games, but we still have a good split of picks. The Houston-Tennessee game was pretty balanced and had a handful of split power picks. The Dallas-Buffalo game was also split fairly evenly, but the power pick edge went to the visiting Cowboys. The most lopsided picks were on the Denver-Detroit game with the majority picking the Lions. There was a split among power picks as well, but the lion share went to Detroit (see what I did there?)
Good luck to everyone, but especially to Whoosie who mirrored my own picks.
The scrum is heating up as we get closer to the end. Four people achieved perfection this week – congratulations to Cassie, Dianne, Fletcher and John!
A lot of people took the Vikings as their power pick this week. I’d say they dodged a bullet with that late field goal to get a big 3-0 win. I was cheering hard for a 0-0 overtime tie, but apparently there are actual limits to how bad teams can play. The Cowboys and Eagles split the picks this week, but Dallas ran away with the actual game.
The standings tightened up some more this week. Whoosie and Gabe had an impressive 4 points to stay among the top, but Cassie is charging hard with another perfect week. First and second place are once again decided by a single point. It’s a nail biter!
The games are getting harder to select each week with all the QB injuries, but we push forward. There are some overly familiar teams here, but choice of games is slim pickings. Here are the week 15 selections:
Texans@Titans ; Broncos@Lions ; Cowboys@Bills
Picks are due Friday night. It’s naughty to ignore the rules, so don’t be late. Santa is watching!
Hello! Although it was not under the best circumstances, it was still great to see so many of you this past week.
This weekend we have a scattering of selections with the Vikings leading the power picks with ten. Two others picked the Raiders in direct competition. The Bengals have a few power picks, while the Colts had no support despite the overall picks being dead even in that game. The closest contest with heavy power points on the line is the Eagles-Cowboys game with five people taking the Eagles and six taking the Cowboys. That will be the game of the week.
Week 13 wrapped up with a couple of nail biters, one unexpected blowout, and four perfect scores. Cassie, Gerri, John, and Kevin (!!) took home the honors this week. As an aside, I must say that getting a five is pretty exciting. I’m not sure why I don’t do this more often.
In the season leaderboard, Whoosie maintains the top spot along with a two-point margin. Cassie is trailing close behind with Gerri and Gabe tied for 3rd place. But I’m sure the main takeaway for everyone is noticing that your commissioner has crossed over to the upper half of the standings, tied for 12th. I think the oxygen feels a little richer at this altitude. I hope I can stick around for at least another week before being banished back to the scrum dungeons.
Your week 14 selections are here. It’s a busy week, so I tried to get the games out early so everyone can pick at their convenience. Please try to get them in on Friday night if you can.
Colts@Benglas ; Vikings@Raiders ; Eagles@Cowboys
Finally, I want to honor my mother-in-law Judy who passed away this past weekend. I learned a lot about family tradition from spending 25 years of vacations with the family and learned what it means to truly decorate a home for Christmas. She will be sorely missed. For those who missed it, the obituary is shared below as well as touching photo from Charlie & Judy’s 50th wedding anniversary party. That smile will be missed.
Hello everyone. I honestly wasn’t sure whether we’d have a contest this weekend, with the passing of Judy. However, I did receive a pick from everyone and perhaps this little game can provide a welcome distraction during the weekend.
Here are the picks. After being snubbed last week, it looks like the Falcons are the flavor of the week.
Give an extra hug to your family and loved ones today.
