Scrum 2024 Week 17 Picks

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

The games start this afternoon and here are the picks. Nearly half the pool picked a power pick from the DEN-CIN game this afternoon. The weekend could start with a bang! The majority  picked the GB-MIN game for power picks with a heavy emphasis on the Vikings.

In the top six, three people picked the same as Mary and cannot gain any ground. But Stephanie and Adam picked the opposite to keep it spicy.

We’ll see what happens!

Scrum 2024 Week 16 Results

Hi everyone. A couple of the games last week were tough to pick, but almost everyone agreed that the obvious easy pick was the Eagles. Until Jalen Hurts went down in the first quarter.. and then the pool blew up. After the dust settled, only one true genius prevailed with a perfect week. Congratulations to Paul for picking up five points in a week where most almost everyone had two or fewer.

With the Eagles going down last week, there were only two points on the line in the battle of first place. The top two players each picked different games to set up an interesting afternoon. John was sitting three points behind the leader hoping to pick up some ground. But Mary once again flexed and grabbed both to pull ahead by an impressive five point margin with two weeks remaining. Is it truly out of reach? John, Gerri and Stephanie are still mathematically in the hunt. Let’s see if they have a big swing left to make it a conversation next weekend.

One the flip side, we have the bottom feeders. Fletcher dropped another donut and Dianne picked up a point to cut the margin at last place to one point. It would appear to be a battle between these two, but Bill and Molly are still in the conversation. Yikes! Who will be the season turkey? Stay tuned to find out.

Finally, here are your week 17 games.

  • Broncos @ Bengals
  • Titans @ Jaguars
  • Packers @ Vikings

I avoided the Wednesday and Thursday games, but do have one Saturday pick in the list. So it’s extra important to get those picks in on time.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Scrum 2024 Week 15 Results

Hello scrumblers! Week 15 was one of our more interesting weeks, with a couple big road wins and a lot of variety in picks. We had two perfect scores this week – congratulations to Dan and myself. With Detroit suffering a rare home loss, we also had quite a few people who were hit hard this week.

After the dust cleared, Mary’s 4-point week gave her a little separation from her nearest competitors. She now has a three point lead with three weeks to go!

Also, in one week I somehow rose from 14th place to 8th. Dreams can come true! (as long you dream small)

When analyzing the standings, Fletcher pointed out that he has impressively dropped from a third place tie in week 7 to second-last in week 14. That’s a drop of 18 spots in 7 weeks. He held is brittle grip on 22nd place this week with his 1-point week and a commanding 2 point lead above last.

The story of Fletcher introduces a good thought experiment. Charlie Hergenrother was tied for third place with Fletcher in week 7. Could Charlie or any of us intentionally tanked our picks enough to plummet down the standings to end up where Fletcher stands today? If so, then it holds that Fletcher could pull a George Castanza and just pick the opposite of whatever he was thinking to surge ahead instead. If he had done this, he would have 25 more points during this past 8 week stretch would would put him square in second place and one point behind the leader. Somewhere in this 8 week nosedive is a consistently poor strategy than could be turned on its head to lead to a winning play. Hmmm.

Here are the week 16 games. It is slim pickings once again, so we have a division rivalry and two stinkers. Good luck!

  • PHI @ WASH
  • JAX @ LV
  • SF @ MIA

Picks are due Friday. No excuses!

Scrum 2024 Week 14 Results

The road continued on with a wacky week 14. The 49ers and Seahawks took care of business early and convincingly. However, the Cowboys-Bengals displayed all the glory of two talented yet frustratingly flawed teams. It looked like the Cowboys would take the game with a successfully blocked punt… until they turned it over during an ill-advised scramble for the loose football. Then Joe Burrow responded quickly and put the game away. What a way to end. It was almost like watching a Chiefs game!

Two perfect pickers prevailed. Our oldest and youngest (at heart) players, Bill and Emily, led the way. Quite a few fours followed as well.

In the overall standings, Mary continues to hold on by a thread. John keeps hanging with her but still hasn’t got over the hump. Down in the middle, Emily voiced her displeasure around the house in Dallas; she’s scored 14 points the past three weeks and still can’t catch anyone in the standings!

I say it’s better to be treading water than sinking.

Here are the week 15 games. Once again, it was slim pickings to find competitive and interesting games. But away we go!

  • Dolphins @ Texans
  • Bills @ Lions
  • Packers @ Seahawks

We have four weeks left in the season. That’s enough time for the people at the top to make some final surges, but not a lot for the rest of us. I choose to focus on the small battles within the standings. Can you catch those in your immediate family? Or catch the kids who don’t even watch sports? Or overtake your crazy uncle?

So finally with that in mind, our Christmas tree offers a hug and thumbs up for anyone who needs extra motivation to finish strong.

Picks are due Friday. Peace!

I’m very late getting these out.  We have a scattering of power picks with heavy emphasis on the 49ers and Bengals. It appears the Bengals-Cowboys game has the biggest split.
We’ll see what happens Sunday!

Go Steelers!

Scrum 2024 Week 13 Results

Hello and welcome back! It was another wild weekend of football. Our beloved Steelers outlasted the Bengals in a shootout in Cincinnati. The Chargers clobbered the Falcons. The Eagles flexed their muscles against the Ravens.

It was a kind week for some as there were 8 perfect pickers! Somehow, I was not one of them and only earned two points. This thing must be rigged!

Mary finally stumbled this week and missed her power pick. Meanwhile, John and Stephanie had perfect weeks to make up some ground. Suddenly, we have a race at the top!

I cracked the top ten once a while back. I’m not sure what happened to cause my free fall. Rigged!

My strategy for picking games each week is to find games between winning teams with low point spreads. Bonus if we can avoid teams that we chose the week before. This weekend is a commissioner’s nightmare as there are no anticipated close games with point spreads under 3 and the only appealing game of the week is on Thursday.

So I had to reach a bit. We have a battle of for the lead of the disappointing NFC West, which is almost interesting. And then we have a battle between supposed talented teams with losing tendencies. Here are the week 14 games:

  • SEA @ AZ
  • CHI @ SF
  • CIN @ DAL

You know the drill. Picks are due Friday!

And finally, thanks to everyone for sharing their holiday pictures. I think I have found some with most of our football pool members included. Let’s take a tour around the country!

From Colorado, we have Stephanie with Chad and her son Calvin.

From Milwaukee, we have the Lillegard family!

Also in Milwaukee, we have Whoosie and Bill!

Escaping Milwaukee for the weekend, we have Mary in scenic Philadelphia!

From Champaign Illinois visiting Akron Ohio, we have the Hergenrothers!

From sunny Cincinnati, we have Dan working the kitchen!

The biggest gathering of Nemmers was in Springfield Missouri!

And finally, way down in sunny Dallas Texas we have the Sherburnes and the Manteeth!

What a great series of photos with a wonderful group of big-hearted and good looking people!

cheers!
