2018 Week 4 Picks

Hello Footballers,

It’s been a busy couple of days!  I don’t have much pithy to say – but know it’s exciting to have everyone playing along.

Here’s the pick sheet, and a pick of the best looking folks in our group – Dana and Molly Hergenrother all dressed up for Homecoming.

2018 Week 3 Results: We shoulda all known better!

Dang it Footballers!

How did that just happen?  I do like Whoosie’s suggestion that we shouldn’t count the Minnesota loss because that was so bad it wasn’t really football.  But, sadly, that’s not how the Scrum works.

On the bright side – mad props to Gerri and Stephanie as the last two players without a strike. Impressive stuff, ladies!

On the bummer side – it’s time to say goodbye to some folks:  with the losses by the Vikings and Patriots the following players were eliminated: Adam, Charlie H., Charlie N., John & Margie, Paul, Tyler, Whoosie and Calvin.  For those keeping score, that means the other 10 players sustained their first strike.  This is probably also a good time to remind you to pay up!  If you have been eliminated – you still have to pay.

Week 4 games will only get trickier. Thursday night is Vikings v. Rams. I don’t think many have either of these as an option, but if you do and want to use it, make sure to get that pick in by kick off on Thursday.  Otherwise, end of the day Friday.

And, thanks to everyone who sent pictures.  Here’s a shot of the folks who were in Minnesota for the NAMI walk (So many people I love in that photo!) and also a Gabe Carter’s Sophomore year school photo.  Lookin’ good!

2018 Week 3 Picks: Hard to turn down a 17 point spread

Hello Footballers,

Well, there are 16 games this weekend, but there is only 1 with a 17 point spread. So, for the most part the Vikings were the favorite choice. If they lose to the Bills, then the pool will see quite a shakeup.  But, there were a few players who had already used up that choice, so we’ve got a smattering of other selections including the Bears, Eagles, Patriots and Jaguars.

Good luck to everyone!

2018 Week 2 Results: A Doozy of a Loss

Hello Footballers,

Well there was only one loss in the pool this week, but it was a doozy.  With Pittsburg’s horrible failure the Scrum has seen it’s first casualty.  Last year’s winner, Molly Hergenrother, has completed her 2018 run.  Such a bummer, but at least she can console herself with that big pile of money she’s sitting on from 2017.

Other close games ended just as you had all predicted.  So, yay for you all! But now it gets tricky:  will the teams that are horrible continue to stink?  Or, will the teams that were supposed to be good finally find their groove.  It should make for some heavier contemplation for week 3.

Week 3’s Thursday night is Jets/Cleveland.  If you are crazy enough to pick this game, I need your pick by Thursday before kickoff.  Otherwise, by end of day on Friday.

This week’s family photo is of Calvin Carter’s chicken!  A good looking clucker for sure! Thanks, Whoosie for sending that in. (please send in your photos to share too – with our without chickens.)

And, the tally:

2018: Week 2 Picks

Hello Footballers,

We have made it to week 2.  And, there are 9 people on the brink of elimination already.  Will they be saved by the Saints?  Pushed on through by the Rams?  That’s why we play the games.

Overall seven different teams were picked this week.  And 3 players: Violet, Molly and Whoosie are alone in their picks….will they be the geniuses or be eliminated????

Thanks to everyone for getting their picks in on time.  And, thanks to Kevin for being a great commish – it was nice to know the pool was in such capable hands while I was running around like a headless chicken last weekend.

GO RAMS!

2018: Week 1 Results – What Just Happened?!

Wait a minute. Have the games started already? Where did all these strikes come from?

A lot of fine players were scratching their heads after a rough opening weekend. Nine people earned strikes after the first games, advancing perilously close to the Cliffs of Elimination. So much for mulligans, those nine are now playing for keeps.

The commissioner’s entourage escorted her back into the office. She’s still arranging the old oak desk, grinding coffee beans, and sorting through her football files. She will be back in business tomorrow and ready to accept your Week 2 picks.

Please send Emily your pick by kick-off Thursday, if you’re taking the early game. Otherwise, all other picks are due Friday at midnight.

Week 1 is here! Thanks for your patience this weekend. It took a little longer to poke the stragglers since we were downtown all weekend working the festival. We have excellent participation this season and everyone’s picks are in!

And also included below are the shameless plugs for Emily’s excellent promotion of this weekend’s Dallas Chocolate Festival. Here she is on the local ABC and Fox affiliate morning shows.
Good luck to everyone who picked Baltimore!

2018: Football Week 1

Happy Labor Day! Thanks to everyone for responding and signing up for another season of the Nemmers Scrum football pool. Once again, we have a good turnout and I’m looking forward to another exciting season. Since the commissioner is busy planning for next weekend’s Dallas Chocolate Festival, I am sitting in to do the books and collect your picks.

It’s time to make your first pick. If you’re choosing the opening Thursday night game, I need to receive you pick prior to kickoff Thursday night. Otherwise, all other picks are due midnight Friday night. The first two weeks seem to be the toughest and some good teams struggle to find their groove and some of the 2017 bad teams decide they want to win in 2018. Pick wisely – either by studying deep analytics or picking the team with the coolest helmets. Whichever scheme works for you.

This past week was especially hard on the family as we lost one of our players and one of my favorite people on the planet, Howie Senn. I was friends with the Senns before I ever met a Nemmers. Howie’s passing was an unexpected shock and he will be sorely missed. We discussed whether we should postpone the start of the pool, but decided the family activity and distraction was important right now. So I have an extra Terrible Towel on hand and am ready for competition.

On the lighter side, we welcome two new rookies to the pool this year: Calvin and Violet. Molly innocently joined the pool last year, asked for the instructions, and then proceeded to destroy us. She now holds the trophy and has her photo on the wall of fame. Watch out for the rookies!

Email me your pick or send a text. And if we don’t have your cash, now’s the time to ante up!

cheers!
Kevin
