CONGRATS TO DAN MAZZA!!!

Well, it was close, but Dan Mazza managed to keep the lead he built over the final weeks of the season and is our 2022 Season Champion.  Congratulations to Dan, as well as to Stephanie who came in 2nd, and Paul who finished in 3rd.  It was a great season with lots of ups and downs, and some crazy unpredictable stuff. A tie! A cancelled game! Who would have thunk it?

Thanks again to everyone for making this so fun.  And, Congrats to Dan! We’ll get his winnings to him shortly!

2022 Week 18: It all comes down to the swishy fishies

Posted on by • 2 comments

Happy (Belated) New Year Footballers,

It all comes down to this.  Dan goes into this final week with a two point lead over Stephanie and a four point lead over Molly.  Because of their picks, Molly at best can only make up 3 points, so she cannot catch Dan.  That brings it to Stephanie.

By my very amateur analysis, it looks like if the Dolphins beat the Jets, Cleveland beats Pittsburgh and Green Bay wins, that Stephanie can pull ahead by a point. Should keep it interesting, at least for a little bit.

For the rest of us, there are family grudge matches on the line – I am just a point away from beating Kevin.  Violet has been gunning for Heidi for quite some time, and I am hoping to see a Madison victory dance if she crushes the records of both her parents.

Anyway, enjoy the games today! It has been a fun season. By far, the best part of this whole sha-bang is hearing from all of you each week.  But, especially Bill, who comes up with things like “Swhishy Fishies” to describe the Dolphins.  Thanks to everyone for getting playing along.

(GO STEELERS!!!!!!)

2022: Week 16 Results, Week 17 Picks

Posted on by • 0 comment

Happy New Year Footballers!

With only a handful of days left in 2022…have you made your resolutions for next year yet? Mine is to make better picks in the early part of the NFL season.  Hah!

Week 16 was a good one, with lots of 5 point winners, with an especially strong showing from the Hergenrothers. Congrats to perfect pickers Bill, Charlie H, Dianne, Paul, Tyler and Whoosie! Good pickin!  These scores and a some good four point plays created a little shake up in the upper ranks, but Dan has managed to cling to his lead.  Molly and Stephanie are right on his tail with one power pick still being able to close the gap.

This week, I tried to pick games that would be fun to watch – and are hopefully televised.  With playoff implications on the line, winning records, and tight spreads, I’m hoping the games are fun even if your picks don’t turn out the way you wanted.

Week 17 picks are:

Dolphins v. Patriots
Vikings v Packers
Bills v Bengals

No Saturday games this week, but we’ll be on the road all day that day, so earlier picks are always better.  Please get ’em in by end of day Friday.

And..for your viewing pleasure, here’s a gem that the kids found in some collections of old photos yesterday.  I hope everyone has some fun this new years like Charlie and Judy in this photo from 1965.

2022: Week 15 Results and Week 16 Picks: Alert!! Saturday Games!

Posted on by • 1 comment

Ho Ho Ho Footballers,

Did you see that world cup final? Maybe the best football game of the year! Oh…wait…this is AMERICAN football.  Let’s get back to our regularly scheduled programming.

This was a week where a lot of people got 5s.  Well done to everyone!  As someone who got a 5 (woo hoo!) I was actually hoping for a 4 and a Chargers loss, as it would have totally moved me up in the standings. But, it didn’t.  And, as you can see, Dan has managed to hang on to his lead, inching up another point.  But there is still a pack at his heels.  Three weeks to go and I predict it will be down to the wire.

Here are the picks for week 16.  Please pay extra attention to getting your picks in EARLY!!! As there are games on Saturday this week.  There weren’t a lot of Sunday choices. I guess even football players like to hang out at home on Christmas day.

The games for week 16 are:

Eagles v Cowboys
Raiders v Steelers
Broncos v Rams

In the meantime, enjoy this picture of Violet getting her 2nd place medal for the 200 freestyle at her swim meet last weekend.

2022 Week 14 Results / Week 15 Picks. We have a new leader

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Congratulations to the Sherburne contingent of the football pool – with the only two perfect 5-point weeks, Margie and Madison have managed to make big jumps in the standings.  Nice work ladies.  A few other strong performances in the middle of the pack also created some shuffling.  Personally, I am giving myself high fives as I got DOUBLE the points of the rest of my family…combined.  Boom!

And it only took about 3 months, but it has happened. We have a new player atop the leader board.  Congrats to Dan, who managed to squeak ahead of Molly this week.  Mary, Fletcher, Madison and Stephanie are all right on their tails too….so these final weeks should prove to be exciting.

This week was a tough one to put together.  All the games with small spreads had a team that we had to pick last week.  I try not to use the same team two weeks in a row. But almost all of the other games had GIANT spreads.  So, that doesn’t seem much fun either. Anyway, I think this week might surprise some people.  I am willing to guess that the picking will be just as hard. Good luck to everyone and get those picks in on time please!

Week 15 Picks:

Falcons v. Saints
Lions v Jets
Titans v Chargers

2022 Week 14 Picks…and trees!

Ho Ho Ho Footballers,

It is getting close to Christmas (and the end of the NFL season).  Time to see if the Tampa Bay offense will be naughty or nice.

It is a mix up kind of week, with all six choices being selected as a power pick.  I do think a lot of you just picked the Steelers to make me (and Kevin) feel better, but Violet picked them because “They are going to “steal” a win.).  We’ll see, fingers are crossed.

And, if you are like us and can’t watch the game you want because you have to watch the Cowboys and Texans (ugh), maybe you can distract yourself by checking out all of the lovely Christmas decorations…and Bailey’s tree.

2022: Week 13 Results and Week 14 Picks: A Tie? Oh My!

Posted on by • 0 comment

A tie?  We had a tie?  What do we do with that?

Welp, no one gets a win, so the tie between the Giants and Commanders leaves everyone with a big goose egg for that game in week 13.

What does that mean for the pool? First it means that people who had their power pick elsewhere, had a chance to make hay.  Paul and Kevin both did just that. Earning 4 points in a week where so many only could at best get two gave them a leg up.  Congrats guys to using big gains in a weird week to leap in the standings.

Just as critically, this means that Dan caught Molly.  Fletcher, at one point behind, is still very much in it as well.  So late in the season and we have a real horse race!  Who would have imagined it?

For week 14 here are the games – this week, please also send a photo of your holiday decorations or tree.

Ravens v Steelers
Buccaneers v. 49ers
Patriots v Cardinals

To get everyone inspired, I’m sharing a tree I saw on the internet that was decorated with Crocheted squares – I thought it was cool. Send what you have and I’ll share that with the picks.

Go Steelers!!!!!

2022 Week 12 Results, Week 13 Picks: Football Traditions are the Best Traditions

Hello Footballers,

I come to you this week from Columbia, Missouri where I have driven Fletcher back to Mizzou to wrap up the semester, and to hang with my parents for the week.  Good thing I planned on staying awhile because it took the first two days just to get the Christmas tree up.  All I know is, you should all come visit and see that amazing tree.

Additionally, we are in a happy football week.  I was happy the Steelers won on Monday night and Dad was excited that he was the only person to get a perfect 5 in week 12. Way to go Charlie! That did move him up in the standings.  Other movement included some shake up in the middle and Dan moving into second place.

Speaking of Dan…I have THE BEST highlight to share with y’all this week. Check out the local Cincinnati news coverage of Dan’s family’s 50th annual football game (click here or on the image to go to the news coverage). I’m pretty sure Dan makes an appearance at the 2 minute mark. What a cool tradition! And, how fun to have your family featured on the news!

As for our own football traditions…we’re at week 13.  This week’s picks are:

Jaguars v. Lions
Commanders v. Giants
Chargers v. Raiders

Good luck everyone…and Go Steelers.

2022 Week 12 Picks: Bs and Cs

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone is sneaking in an extra workout to counterbalance pie consumption over the past few days.  We had a really nice Thanksgiving here with lots of laughs, delicious food and some nice relaxing time together.  Good stuff.

This week, Bs and Cs aren’t just the grades I got in high school physics, but also the choices you could have made for teams:  Bucs, Bengals, Broncos or Cincy, Cleveland, Carolina. Not too many people went the alliteration route, but I was saying “Bee, Bee,  Bee” in my head while I was typing it up.

It should be a week that mixes things up. All six teams were selected as power picks, and the split seems about even on all 3 games. Good luck to everyone!

Here’s a couple photos from our outing to see the holiday lights on Friday evening (Fletch was out with his buddies):

2022 Week 11 Results and Week 12 picks: Gobble Gobble Everybody

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Well, it was an interesting week. The Cowboys complete annihilation of the Vikings managed to keep a few people in the mix, while also dashing the hopes of others. So much for a 3 point spread.

Nobody got a perfect week, but Stephanie did manage to close in on Molly a tiny bit, and Mary and Dan joined Fletcher in striking distance of the leaders. What will happen in week 12? Only time will tell.

The picks for Thanksgiving week are:

Buccaneers vs. Browns
Bengals v. Titans
Broncos v. Panthers

I hope that everyone has the yummiest and funnest holiday time. In celebration, I have collected some turkey photos to inspire you as you cook up your own bird here in a couple of days.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  GO STEELERS!!!!
