Nemmers Scrum

Happy Halloween Footballers,

For a week with razor thin spreads, the picks this week were more lopsided than I thought they would be.  Most people put all their good candy on the Bengals. We’ll see if they can spook the Browns and get the win.

As for the rest of the fun…here’s a great sampling of fall and halloween picks sent in by our players. Thanks to everyone who took a sec to grab some pics.

We’ve got pumpkins:

Our Neighbor’s warning from Santa

Calvin and Stephanie Showing off their knife skills

Happy Halloween everyone!  Go Steelers!

Hello Footballers,

Overall, week 7 was a pretty good week.  Lots and lots of perfect and near-perfect  pickers. Well done to everyone who managed a 4 (10 players) or 5 (8 players) point week. Nice work! I managed to do the opposite by getting a zero again. Amazing that we are 7 weeks in and I have only picked 6 games correct so far this season. Boo for me.

In the overall standings, Molly manages to keep her clear lead. Getting a perfect week sure helped to solidify her standing. But, Fletch, Madison and Stephanie are not giving up easily, all with 21 points.

And, here are the picks for this week, we’ve got both the Battle of California and the Battle of Ohio. I would have totally gone for all three interstate games, but none of the other matchups fit the bill, so you get Ravens and Saints.

Action Required:  As it is Halloween Weekend – bonus points for sending in a favorite halloween photo with your picks. It can be of you, or someone else.  It can be new, or old. With or without comment.

Raiders v. Saints
49ers v. Rams
Bengals v. Brown

*Good luck everyone! Looking forward to seeing picks and halloween photos.  (Go Steelers)

Hello Footballers,

There are a lot of New York picks this week.  But that was bound to happen with two games including teams from the Big Apple.  And interestingly – it was a pretty even split on the Jets v Broncos game, but not a single one of us picked Denver as their “Superdy duper-ty” pick. Not sure what that means.  I think that Russel Wilson won’t lose 4 in a row. Should be fun to watch.

In the other two games we have power picks on both sides, meaning that our shuffle will continue in the ranks.  Can Molly hold on?  Will Calvin have a surge?  Only time will tell.

As for fall activities, here’s a great shot of all the Lillegards sitting in the balcony taking in Mamma Mia! So fun.

This is a good time to remind everyone that pictures are always welcome.  Send along some shots of whatever you are up to for us to share.

Have a great Sunday.   Go STEELERS!

Hello Footballers,

Well, week 6 was a good one, especially for Fletcher, Madison, Tyler and Whoosie. That was some lucky picking for sure. Congrats to them for getting all 3 games correct in what turned out to be a pretty difficult week of picking.

And, in the overall standings, Molly – despite her goose egg in week 6 – has managed to cling to her lead.  Mary, Fletcher and Dan are all closing the gap, so the next few weeks will be critical to see if Molly can hang on.  With 7 players all within 5 points of the lead and 11 weeks of football to go, there are lots of ways this season could play out.

Here in Dallas, we sadly said goodbye to Whoosie, and then I snuck out of town to go antiques shopping out in the middle of nowhere farm country with my friend Anne. I was having such a nice time, I forgot that I hadn’t finished the football pool.  Below a photo of the sunrise I was enjoying as I typed up this post.

Here we go for week 7:

Colts v Titans
Giants v Jaguars
Jets v Broncos

Good luck everyone!  (GO STEELERS!!!!  I smell a 2 week winning streak in Florida!!!)

Hello Footballers!

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend.  Here in Dallas we are proud that we are sleeping off our massive walk around the Texas State Fair yesterday.  The weather was on the hot side, and the crowds were big, but we made the most if it. If you get the chance, ask Whoosie about the bird show.

This weeks picks are interesting. With all 6 teams being selected as at least one player’s power picks, we have lots of head to head match ups.  My favorite is the Battle of the Sherburnes: Maddie vs. Margie with opposite power picks on the Bills v. Chiefs Game.  That should be exciting.

The other thing I enjoyed this week were the comments coming in with the picks:

From Kevin: “I’m going all in on poor choices this week.”
From Paul: “I’m hoping to keep my hot streak going.”
From Bailey: “LOLZ RAWR XD” (you’re on your own with this one.)

(also, a score update – Mary got a PERFECT 5 in week 5, and I logged it wrong.  WAY TO GO MARY!!!!!  The scores have been updated to reflect the accurate standings and point totals.)

Some pictures for this week:  A hello from Big Tex, and even better – recognition of Gabe’s service on the banners in Wetmore, CO.  (I love this so much!)

Good luck to everyone today, but especially to the people who made the same picks as me.  (GO STEELERS – I hope Tom Brady forgets how to get to the stadium)

Hello Footballers,

Clearly this is Molly’s world and we are all just living in it. Congrats to Molly and Dana on their perfect 5 point picks this past week. I am impressed by their excellent guessing, and baffled by my own continued struggles (third week of 3 wrong games for me).  With her repeated success, Molly has pulled ahead even further and now has more than a week’s lead on the rest of the pack.  I’m not sure what the Scrum term is for “The leader is lapping the rest of the pack,” but this is what is happening.

So…what can we do but try again next week.  The picks for week 6 are:

Jaguars v. Colts
Bengals v. Saints
Bills v. Chiefs

As for pictures this week – we’ll send a Happy Birthday to Charlie N with this cute picture Adam sent me a couple weeks back (I hope you get lots of kisses from Mom), a Happy 3rd Anniversary to Tyler (and Sydney), and a Happy “Holy Crap I just hugged Jerome Bettis!” to Dianne and Paul.

Have a great week! GO STEELERS (They need all the help they can get.)

Hello Footballers,

Well, if the NFL is anything like Major League Baseball, we are in for a crazy weekend.

What I did notice is that Molly and Paul have the EXACT OPPOSITE picks.  So, either Paul closes the gap, or Molly pulls ahead. I’ve got the same picks as Paul, so I know who I am pulling for.

Also – a tiny administrative update – last week I shorted Dan a point.  That has been corrected, and he is now represented correctly.  Sorry about that, Dan.  This is probably a notice for everyone else to make sure to check my work each week.

This weekend, Kevin, Violet and I came up to Missouri to visit Fletcher and have been enjoying the glorious fall weather and wandering in a campus town.  So fun to be a college kid. Here’s a couple pictures from our adventures

Hello Footballers,

When the Bills v Ravens game ended in a crazy double-bonk field goal miss, Celia texted me, “How do you pick these games?”  My formula isn’t too scientific: a little bit on the spreads, game timing (no Thursdays, try not to do Monday night), teams we haven’t had to choose from in recent weeks, and teams I like to cheer for.  But Bailey has it all figured out, in a kind of Slumdog-Millionaire-Everything-Is-Related kind of way.  This week’s example, “Bills…because I want those dolla-bills.” Makes sense to me!

Congrats to the perfect pickers in week 4: Madison and Heidi. It was a tough week full of surprises, so nice work! And lots of people with solid 4-point weeks as well. The pool is still being shook up. Week 5 will be no different. In the meantime, Molly continues her domination, even a week at zero can’t hold her back.

This week will be the following games:

Chargers v. Browns
Lions v. Patriots
Dolphins v. Jets

Hope everyone has a great weekend!  We’re excited at our adventures ahead.  GO STEELERS!!!

Hello Footballers,

I think fall has finally made it to Dallas. Kevin and I sat out last night and had a drink with friends last evening and I had to put on a sweater.  A sweater!  It’s happening!!!!!

Anyway….football. Lots of good picks all over the board. We’ve got 4 of the 6 teams chosen as the super pick, with about half of us going with the Bills v. Ravens for the heavy hitter.  Lots of variation near the top of the pack too…so there will be some shuffling in one way or another when it is all said and done.

Also – thanks to so many for the birthday wishes with the picks (and thanks Dad for the shout out).  We had a great evening out for a fancy dinner and home for delicious cake on Friday.  Here’s a picture of me at my book club this week where we celebrated with pie AND cake.  Yay for me!

Also – happy birthday to Adam and to Dana, who both officially celebrate tomorrow.  Here’s a pick of Adam in his role as Pops with Brooks, and Dana on her adventures this summer in the Philippines.

Have a great weekend and week, everyone!  Go Steelers!!!!
