2019 Week 4 Picks: Looking West

Hello Footballers,

I hope that everyone is having a good week.  We’re officially in the 2 week countdown to Tyler and Sydney’s wedding, and I know I speak for all the Dallas Manteeth when I say that we are all getting VERY EXCITED to see so many of you.

This week, we are all looking for answers in Los Angeles:  4 Picks with the Rams and a full dozen going with the Chargers.  Although I am pretty sure that those weren’t so much pro-bolts picks, as much as they were “whomever is playing Miami” picks.  There’s also some random scatter shooting for Green Bay (sorry, Calvin), Indy, KC and Kevin burning the big obvious pick with New England.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for getting your picks in on time!

2019: Week 3 Results – Last (Dallas) Mantooth Standing

Hello Footballers,

I hope you had a good weekend.  The weather is still pretty hot here, so we spent more time napping and watching sports on TV than we did hanging out in the yard…but hopefully soon we’ll see a few days in the 80s.

Overall it was a solid week.  Dallas blew the doors off, and most of the other wins were pretty solid as well.  Only one strike this week, and that went to Violet for picking Tampa Bay, who got outscored some 20+ to 3 in the second half, only to lose by 1.  A heartbreakers for sure.  It also means that I am the last person in the house to not have a strike.  Hopefully I can hang on to that and not do anything stupid.

This week’s Thursday game is a barn burner – Eagles v. Packers.  If you’re gonna go with that game, then I need your pick by kickoff.  Otherwise, you know the drill.  (End of the day on Friday.)

In the meantime, here’s a few snaps of some of the scrum players making the most of their nights under the lights on the football field.  Molly is 5th from the right in the picture of the cheerleading squad from Champaign, Il, Gabe is #28 and Calvin is #8 at their respective football teams out in Florence, CO.  Football does bring people together. Thanks to Molly and Stephanie for sending in the pics.

Be like Molly and Stephanie – send in some pics.

Cheers to all and have a great week!

2019: Week 3 Picks – How ’bout them Cowboys?

Hello Footballers,

While we have six different teams selected here in week three, I am astounded that so many  – half of our players (including all 4 who have a strike) – have picked the Cowboys. Personally, in the 8 years of this pool, I have never picked a Cowboys game correctly, so I’m in total shock that eleven of you felt like this was your best bet. It also means, that I’ll be pulling for the Dolphins.  Err…well, maybe not the Dolphins.

Other than that we’ve got a good week cooking – the Raiders/Vikings and Broncos/Packers also games to watch.  Good luck to everyone.

In the meantime, I’m reminding you what winning looks like. As Dianne pointed out when she sent this great photo: it’s not only the Hergenrothers enjoying a game in South Bend, but also a picture containing not 1, but TWO Nemmers Scrum Winners!  Nice work there.

2019 Week 2 Results: Where did all the QBs go?

Hello Footballers,

Let’s just take a moment to be glad that we run a king of the hill pool here and not fantasy football.  With the injuries (and mono) this week, we saw lots of disruption at the QB position, including in Pittsburgh (season ending elbow injury for Rothlesburger), New Orleans (Brees broke his thumb, out for 6 weeks) and the Jets (I’m not sure who is left after mono and some injuries.)

On our own front, we saw a couple more folks get strikes.  Kevin we already knew about, and Dan takes a hit with the hometown Bengals.  And, everyone who picked the Texans should be pretty excited about their ability to stop the Jags on 4th down at the end of the game’s goal line play, or this week could have been a real blood bath.

This week’s Thursday game is Tennesee v. Jacksonville.  If you are bold enough to go with that game, then I need your pick before kickoff.  Otherwise, let’s get those picks in by end of day on Friday.

And, for pictures this week, I’m posting from a summer event – Whoosie’s 70th b-day shin dig in Des Moines.  It was a ton of fun: seeing family, eating cake, attending the best farmers market in the universe, and of course, achieving my life long dream of seeing the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile.  Y’all – send more pictures.

2019 Week 2 Picks

Hello Footballers,

I hope you are settling into fall.  I know that several of our crew were witnessing live action college football this weekend, others of us have to settle for TV.  But, I’m excited to have the weekend a little more free this weekend to actually sit and check out some match ups.

This week, the bulk of the pack went with Houston or Baltimore.  Solid choices for sure, but 5 other teams also got into the mix. Sadly for Kevin, his plan-ahead strategy of picking the Thursday game backfired when Carolina couldn’t get it done at the end against the Bucs. So instead of resting easy this Sunday, he’s hoping that a few of us take a strike to suffer along with him!

Good luck to everyone.  Also, a reminder to get me your $$ if you haven’t done so already.

2019 Week 1 Results

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone enjoyed the first weekend of football.  The nail biter awards go to Bill with his New Orleans pick, where the lead changed twice in the last 40 seconds of the game, and to Molly whose Chargers won in overtime.

That left newcomer Fletcher and perennial frontrunner Stephanie as the only two who suffered a strike at the hands of the Browns.  Perhaps the “new look” Browns don’t quite have new results just yet, but time will tell.

This week’s picks are due on Friday by the end of the day, unless you are going with the Bucs/Panthers game on Thursday evening…in which case you’ll need to get that pick in before kickoff on Thursday.  You can send them to me from here on in.  But, let’s all give a cheer to Kevin who managed to round everything up in week 1!  Thanks, man!

Here’s a couple pictures from this past weekend. It was really cool to have Mary, the Hergenrothers and the Springfield Nemmerses here.  And I’m so thankful to Kevin, Fletcher and Violet for all their help.  (The guy standing next to Lisa is Keith Manoy – he’s the super nice guy who helps me find the right clothes for all events…)

2019: Week 1 Picks!

Posted on by • 0 comment

The Dallas Chocolate Festival is in full swing with one day to go. Thanks to everyone for getting your picks back to me, it’s been a busy week and we’re anxious for the return of our regular commissioner. This pool could use some stability!

This season we welcome two new additions to the pool from the younger generation: Heidi Lillegard and Fletcher Mantooth. Most of the other usual suspects have signed up for a total of 22 participants. Some may equate that as 1 winner (me) and 21 losers (you), but that sounds a little harsh.

Week 1 is always a nail biter. The sure things are never sure and the long shots may be winners. This week we have 7 different picks ranging from the new-look Browns to some of the old Super Bowl favorites. The Eagles and Seahawks were the popular picks – there will be a lot of eyes on those two games.

The picks are pasted below and the blog is up. Let the games begin!

Nemmers Scrum Kickoff…Send Me Week 1 Picks!

Posted on by • 0 comment

Welcome to another season. Last call for this year’s players! We hope to see some new faces as well as the return of some past players.

Our commissioner is sitting out this week as she finalizes preparations for the 10th annual Dallas Chocolate Festival I will be keeping the commissioner’s iron throne warm and handle the first round of picks. She will return next week.

In past years, I was able to share a nice TV interview with Emily and one of the artisan chocolate makers as they plug the festival. This year, she was behind the scenes and not on camera. But she did manage to photo bomb the interview prior walking behind the set several times trying to get a selfie with Ice Cube or Nancy Lieberman. Check out her skills on the local ABC morning show.

Kickoff for the season is Thursday night. If you’d like to pick the Packers-Bears game, please email or text me your pick before 7pm Thursday. Otherwise, all week one picks are due Friday midnight.

And remember… no free rides. Send in your ten bucks before I deploy the hired goons to take it from you!

Kevin
