Week 3 Results: Smart, but not smart enough

Well….I was smart enough to not pick the Vikings, but clearly not smart enough NOT to pick San Francisco.  Ugh.  What a whoopin’!  The curse of the “win by the highest margin” continues into the week 3 picks.  But, maybe this means that all you geniuses who picked Seattle this past weekend are in for a strike.  It’s like the Sports Illustrated Cover jinx.  Only, it is restricted to people in our (gene) pool.

No one was eliminated this past weekend, but now only 10 people are left without a strike.  It’s gonna start getting interesting now.

The Thursday game is San Francisco vs. St. Louis.  If you want to pick this game, I need your choice before kickoff.  Otherwise, end of day Friday is still good.

Also, I’m sure you’re going to be putting a birthday card in the mail to me this week anyway – so if you’re still not paid up, throwing an extra tenner in there would take care of that.

Week 3 Picks – The Vikings? Really?

Hello Footballers,
It is finally fall here in Texas – at least for today. I hope you are getting out and enjoying some beautiful weather where ever you are too!

Here are the picks for this week.  Strangely, for a week when there were 3 games that had double digit spreads, a lot of people picked Minnesota.  Is Cleveland really that bad?  I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.  Lots of picks for Seattle too – hard to turn down a 19 point spread when you’ve got a strike, right?  New Orleans, San Francisco and Denver rounded out the picks, so 5 games to keep an eye on.  And, since Denver is Monday night – no results posted until Tuesday.  (You may also notice that Dana has a pick, even though she’s been eliminated.  If you do not hold a high school diploma and would like to continue playing, you may do so for practice.  I’m pretty sure this was lined out in the bylaws 3 seasons ago, but if you were wondering why that was there, now you know.)

Thanks to all for getting picks in quick again this week.  Makes it sooo much easier to put it together.  Now, if you could all be as efficient in sending your $10…..

Good luck to all – except maybe those cheering for Seattle and Minnesota!

Week 2 Results: Close finishes define the week!

This week there were some squeakers  – I’m talking to you Texan-pickers!  Andy’s game and Dana’s game came down to the wire too.  Andy (and Buffalo) survived.  Sadly, for Dana, that defeat has eliminated her from the pool this year.  Stupid Cowboys – that just gives me another reason to root against them.  The good news for Dana is that she’s too busy setting personal records in cross country to be bothered by this too much.  Dianne says she can run 2 miles in under 13 minutes – even when she isn’t being chased by a tiger.  Impressive!

Here’s the link if you want to see the results from all the games…

The winners of this week’s “Biggest Margin” award are me and Uncle Bud – er, I mean Howie.  Way to go Packers.  (You won’t hear me say that very often.).  Hopefully we won’t suffer Tyler’s fate of winning big one week and then having a losing pick the next.  If that happens, we may have to rethink this award.

Anyway, great job to all and thanks a ton for getting picks in on time this week.  It was so nice to have ’em all lined up and ready to go when I went to put the spreadsheet together.

Week 2 Picks – bring on the strategy

There are a lot of different choices in picks this week. Some seem to think that the pantsing the Ravens got last week in Denver will fire them up to win.  Others think that it’s better to play it safe and stay in the scrum than save a perennial winner for deep in the season, and then there are some who just pick a game because Vanilla Ice is the half time show  –  I’m talking about you, Dianne H.

Anyway, congrats to the Sherburnes and Kevin who can sit back and enjoy all day long on Sunday knowing that their prudent Thursday night pick carried them through week 2 unscathed.  For the rest of you I say – Go PACKERS!!!!!

Week 1 Results: Let the games begin!

I don’t know that anyone stayed up late to watch Houston squeak out a winner over SD, but I bet you didn’t have any fingernails left if you did.

I had to look up the results this morning and found this pretty funny article about Philip Rivers

Well, strikes are now against Dana and Kevin for the Steelers and Stephanie and Chad (Carters) for picking Tampa Bay.  Man, how the Jets won that I’ll never know, they were a mess in pre-season.

Also, John Sherburne pointed out that we should recognize the excellent pick of the week for the person whose team won by the biggest margin – and this week that award goes to Tyler N. for his pick of KC over Jacksonville.  Well done Tyler!  (On the sheet, this award winner will be denoted in Dark Green).

Ok, so here are the results.

Make sure to get your picks in on time this week!

Week 14 Results – We Have A Winner!

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers!

Thanks to a blowout by the Seahawks, and a last second crazy TD play by the Eagles to beat Tampa Bay, the football pool has come to an end.  This year, Kevin bested all others with his savvy guess-taking and general football pool prowess.  And Paul, with his weekly early-pick precision will have to settle for second place.  Congrats to Kevin for winning the $180 pot: just in time for wifey-related holiday shopping!

A great season full of lots of fun for sure.  Thanks to everyone who played!  I hope you guys all had a great time and will not only play again next year, but will strongly encourage your family members that did not play (Andy, Whoosie, Meredith, Dana – I’m talkin’ to you!) to play as well.  Mostly, because it will be more fun.  But also, because I figure third time’s a charm for me, and I want the pot to be REALLY BIG when I win next year!

Thanks again.  Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Monday Night (cue Hank Williams…)

Hello Footballers – or just Kevin and Paul:

Here’s the pick sheet for this week.  If you both win or lose, then I promise to come up with something good for the last 3 weeks of the season.

Week 13 Results – Barrel Scraping Paid Off!

Posted on by • 0 comment

Wow: a couple of shockers yesterday have changed the landscape of the Scrum.  With an OT 54 yard field goal by the Rams, Howie was knocked out of the pool.  And, Charlie Batch probably wasn’t the only person crying at the end of the Ravens/Steelers rivalry game:  Dianne and Bailey both ended their runs this year with Suisham’s game winning Steelers FG.  But, somehow, barrel scrapers Paul (picking Buffalo) and Kevin (picking the Jets), managed to stay in it.    3 weeks to go, and 2 players left – good stuff!

Week 13 picks – the bottom of the barrel

Hello Footballers.  Sorry for the late post, yesterday I was held hostage by little elves and forced to put up Christmas decorations all day  – or maybe it was just Violet holding me hostage.  Regardless, the house is now full of holiday cheer.

5 players, 4 different picks this week. And, a lot of complaining at the picks.  We’ll see what happens.  Kevin said he’d be nice and not put the Stink Eye on Bailey and Dianne for picking the Ravens against his battered Steelers.  Good luck to all!

Week 12 Results

Well, it has only taken me a week to come out of my tryptophan-turkey induced sluggishness and get the results from last weekend posted.  A few squeakers, but everyone moved on.

As there have been a few critical games the last few weeks that have gone into overtime, Kevin says that as commissioner of the league I should explain the rules on this before there is any controversy.  So, to clarify the rule – your team must WIN to move on.  If there is a TIE – like there is overtime and no one breaks the tie – then your team did not win and you are therefore eliminated.  That sounds a bit merciless, but a line has to be drawn somewhere and this is where I am drawing it.

That being said, here are your results from last week.  Make sure to get your picks in.
