Week 5 Picks: Rangers play at 7:00

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend.  Rumor has it some people had homecoming – so the rest of us might like to see some photos……just sayin’.

Here are the picks for week 5 – a well rounded group with 6 different games in play.  It does seem like a lot of us have bought into the hype of Matty Ice in ATL – so we’ll see if they can hang on for another big ol’ victory this week.

Meanwhile, I think October baseball still has the attention of a lot of us. I’m guessing Whoosie is doing a happy dance on Prince Edward Island after the Cubs beat the Cards yesterday (and I bet Grandpa Bill is smiling too).  Apparently, the Royals still have a shot at this thing (I’m sure any one in the Springfield Nemmers clan can fill you in), and all of us here in the metroplex are cheering on our little Rangers and hoping for a sweep today (take that ESPN analysts – not one of which picked the Rangers to win the series).

So, whatever your sport, I hope you have a comfy spot and a full bowl of chips to get you through this day of exciting action!  Good luck everyone.

2015 Week 4 Results – So, so, lucky…

Posted on by • 0 comment

Well hello Footballers,

If you picked Seattle in week 4 you are so, so lucky.  Apparently, John and Paul have figured out a way to keep the refs up to speed on their picks so they can blow a call at the end of the game to keep them in the running.  Well played, gentlemen, well played.

For the rest of us, almost everyone else survived – although the Indy game came down to the wire too.  Sadly, Arizona suffered their first loss, and with it came the elimination of Bailey.  And, Bill’s theory of picking the Bills didn’t pan out…womp, womp.

But, now it’s week 5.  Thursday night is Colts vs. Texans.  So, if you’re picking that game, I’ll need it before kick off.  Otherwise, by the end of the day Friday.  And, this weekend the Dallas Manteeth are heading out for a night of camping on Saturday morning.  If I don’t have your pick when I go to put the posts together – you’ll be assigned Da Bears.

Good luck to everyone!

2015 Week 4 Picks – Still Baseball Season

Posted on by • 0 comment

There are 8 different teams picked this week.  While the majority are for IND, SEA and SD, we’ve got a lot of different games to be keeping an eye on.  Y’all can just tell me what happens, as I’ll be watching the Rangers.

As for who made the best pick, I’m not really sure, but Uncle Bill’s logic was the best.  As he explained, “I’m going with Buffalo, because after all they are ‘the Bills.’ ”  What could possibly go wrong when picking with your ego?

Good luck to everyone.  GO RANGERS!!!!!

2015 Week 3 Picks

It’s like the Superbowl – almost everyone is cheering for New England (cheaters!) or Seattle (Legion of Boom!).  The only thing we can all agree on, is the cheering goes better with queso.

Arizona, Carolina and Paul with his lone pick of Green Bay are the only teams picked.  You guys can tell me how it all turns out, I’ll be too busy watching the Rangers try to wrap up their division title against the Astros.

Good luck to everyone.

2015 Week 2 Results: Woomp, there it is!

Hello Footballers!

Like Hailey’s comet or a jackalope, some things are so rare, you might never see them in a lifetime.  This week one of those things occurred when in the second week of the pool only 2 players guessed right – and both were the only person to pick that specific team.  Way to go SAM and CELIA – you guys knocked it out of the park this week.

The rest of us, are mostly glad that this is a two strike league.  But, that wasn’t enough for Howie or Joel, as – sadly – they have both been eliminated this week.  We are truly sad to see you go out so early.

So, the ONLY PERSON with no strikes – Celia Lillegard.

Thursday night is the Giants and the Redskins.  If you want this game, I need your pick by Thursday before Kick Off.  Otherwise, by end of day Friday.

Also, big shout outs this week to BAILEY who medaled in golf by placing 6th out of 46 in the Ozark Conference Championships.  And, to all who are walking in Minneapolis at the NAMI event this weekend, our thoughts are with you.

2015 Week 2 picks: Oh When the Saints…

Well, there’s nothing like having a 10 point spread to be the favorite pick.  For the 8 of us who didn’t pick the Saints, we’re going to be cheering against Drew Brees and the gang in a way that doesn’t quite seem fair to such a nice guy.

Celia is the lone pick for the Steelers, and Charlie N. is flying solo on the Raven’s…while Indy and Miami got a little bit of love.

Here’s the picks.  Good luck.  Tell me what happens on Monday, as I’ll be busy watching the DIVISION LEADING TEXAS RANGERS!!!!!!  LET’S GO RANGERS!!!!!  Oh, sorry, I got off track there for a minute.  Football…right, football….

Good luck to all.  The results won’t be posted until Tuesday, as the Indy game isn’t until Monday night.

2015 Week 1 Results: A strong start

We have made it through week one, and thanks to some last-minute excitement by Tony Romo, all those who picked the Cowboys over the Giants in week 1 survived.  Apparently, there is also safety in numbers…as the three people who had lone picks were the only ones to get strikes this week.  Sam, Howie, and Joel have all sustained their first strike.

The Thursday night game for week 2 is Broncos and Chiefs.  If you want either of them: get your pick in before kick off on Thursday, otherwise, get your pick in by end of day Friday.

Also, if you haven’t mailed in your $$ – get to it already!

….and, because I thought this was pretty cool….during the Sunday night game, the event that I worked so hard on for the last 12 weeks was featured in the little spot coming out of a commercial break during the NBC broadcast of the Dallas Game.  So, here you go….

It’s Football Pool Time!

Posted on by • 0 comment

Heeellllooooo Footballers…

It’s ba-ack! It’s time to put in your $10 and get ready for some Nemmers Family Football Pool Fun! So pull yourself away from baseball for just a minute and get your picks together.

I really hope that everyone can play. Also, if you have others that want in – the Mazza’s, Chad Carter, Robert….please send them this note along to them.

The basic rules:

1. Send me $10
2. Each week send me your pick. Send it only to me, not the whole group, so that everyone can make their own pick. I prefer email or text. Email me or send a text.
3. If you team wins, you advance. On your second loss, you are eliminated. You can only pick any team one time each season. This is self policing. Ties count as a loss.

The football season starts on September 7 – but that’s a Thursday. If you want that game, then you need your pick in before kick off. Otherwise, end of day Friday. Here’s a link to week one’s line ups:

And, here’s a link to the blog: where you can check out the rules and all. Bookmark this page so you can check each week’s announcements.

And, to get you all fired up to win, here’s a picture of 2x champions John and Margie Sherburne. Let’s get some fresh blood as to take it all this year…I’m looking at you Bailey Nemmers….

Ok.  Give a shout if you’re in.  If you say no, I’m gonna have Bill Nemmers come and punch you in the jaw so you are out the first six weeks…

Yay for football 2015!!!!

Week 14 Results: The end, my friends

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Congratulations to Team Sherburne.  With their pick of the Lions, (and my erronious pick of New Orleans) John and Margie have claimed victory for the second year in a row.  Well done!  As much as they were excited about the win, John has confirmed that he did want to see it go down to a battle of skills – a 100 meter freestyle race was his activity of choice – as now all those Saturdays swimming laps in a Speedo have been for naught.

I would just like to take a second to thank everyone for participating in the 2014 Scrum.  It has been a lot of fun.  Hope to see you back in 2015!

Week 14 picks – One more from Drew Brees

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope you have all hunkered down for the holiday season.  Our tree is up, and we are ready to go.

This week, Team Sherburne and I both reported our picks to assistant commish, Kevin, before last night’s kick off.  I went with New Orleans, John and Margie went with Detroit.  Because we both had used the other team, there was no doubling up this week.

I’ve been a believer of Drew Brees since this gem back in 2000 (although the video looks like it could have been shot in ’62)….

But then there’s the whole Matthew Stafford sneaky play thing…

Either way.  I am doing my shopping this week.  If you don’t let me know who you are cheering for, I may “Forget” your present this year.  Just sayin’
