2015 Week 10 Picks: 3 for 3

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hi Footballers,

So, we’ve made it to week 10.  With only 3 people left, it seems like they’d all be picking the most obvious choice each week.  Thing is, this far into the season, a lot of the “good” teams have been used up, and everyone is forced to scramble at least a little bit.

That being said, we’ve got 3 different picks from Jim, Kevin and Tyler.  Good luck to all of them.  (Although, if your last name isn’t Mantooth you know who you should be rooting for….just saying…)

2015 Week 9 Results: BOOM! …then there were 3…

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Well, it was a wild and woolly week.  Jim and Kevin with their early picks were sitting pretty while the watched the rest of us – except Tyler – go up in flames this weekend.  That’s right, Denver, Green Bay and the New Orleans all failed to deliver this Sunday, eliminating Celia, Team Sherburne, Gerri, Heidi and yours truly.

Personally, I can’t be too bummed, as the other team I was going to pick was New Orleans, so I would have been eliminated either way.  But, I think this must be stinging a bit more for Team Sherburne, who confessed that they were going to pick CIN on Thursday, but then didn’t get their pick off on time.

Good luck to the remaining 3.  Tyler  – no pressure – but as the last Nemmers standing, you better win this thing, bro.

2015 Week 9 Picks: Lots to look at

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Considering the Sunday games haven’t even started yet, we’ve got a lot of news to report.

First off – the Manteeth men – Jim and Kevin, both went with the Thursday game and are sitting pretty today.  Team Sherburne also had this great idea, but they didn’t get their choice in before kickoff.  You know, the whole snoozing and losing thing.

Secondly – we have to say a sad, sad goodbye to Aunt Whoosie.  She’s been a formidable competitor going deep into the season….who also noticed that in week 8 she picked ATL for the second time and nobody caught it.  So, double bonus points for being honest, but unfortunately, it also means you’re done for 2015.

That leaves us with 8 competitors left.  And, only 6 players active today.  Somehow, we’ve managed to pick 4 different games. The teams to watch are DEN (who, Stephanie pointed out made it VERY VERY close last weekend), GB – who appear to be on fire, New Orleans – against a new coaching staff at Tennessee and the J-E-T-S.

Good luck to everyone!

2015 Week 8 Results: How did Carolina get so lucky?

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Welcome to November – when the scrum starts to crumble.  This week, Matty Ice melted a bit and Atlanta lost to Tampa Bay.  With the loss, we say goodbye to Heidi, Dana and Stephanie.

Then there was Carolina – blowing a giant lead in the 4th quarter and having to squeak it out in overtime.  Yes, OF COURSE, I was cheering for a Carolina win to support Kevin, but I did notice that if they lost that past winners Celia, Kevin and Team Sherburne would have been eliminated in one blow.  But, it wasn’t meant to be.  Seven and 0, that’s where Carolina goes.

Everyone else survived too and we’re down to 9.

So we’re on to week 9.  Half way done.  Thursday night’s game is Browns vs. Bengals.  If you want to pick that game – I need your choice by kickoff on Thursday.  Otherwise, by end of day on Friday.

Good luck to everyone, and happy belated birthday to Aunt Gerri!

2015 Week 8 Picks: Running out of choices…

Posted on by • 0 comment

Happy Halloween Footballers,

Did you remember Daylight Savings? I hope so:

CherDaylightSavings

I hope that everyone gave away all the junk candy and kept the Reese’s cups and Snickers for themselves.  The rain stopped long enough here and it actually turned into a pretty nice night.

Ok, back to football.  As John pointed out to me this week, “In the last couple of years a lot of people dropped out in weeks 8, 10 and 11.  I guess it takes that many weeks before all of the good teams are used up.”    Leave it to an accountant to run the numbers from past years.  Anyway, he has a point.  Lots of good teams have been picked already, and so the gamble of when these surprise good teams are going to run out of luck comes into play.  This week, 3 people took a chance on 6-0 Carolina. Will their luck hold against Colts?  You realize the Colts have a horseshoe as their logo – you feelin’ that Lucky, Kevin, John and Celia?  Sadly, they will all make us wait until the end of the Monday night game to see if they are right.

The other popular pick is the 3-3 Rams against the 49ers.  3 and 3?  Clearly, people are running out of choices.

But, to all of you I say “HAH!”  As Stephanie and Jim can back me up, I picked New England to win. Since was the Thursday night game, and they did win, I’ll be sitting back eating Vi’s flavored tootsie rolls and watching the rest of you sweat it out.

Anyway, good luck to everyone.  We’ll see if John’s predictions of the fall-off are true!

2015 Week 7 Results: Everybody wins (again!)

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

The Ho-hum of everyone winning two weeks in a row has lulled me to sleep – and I totally forgot to post the results.  SORRY!!!

Anyway, congrats to all players still standing for surviving the week.  Apparently, none of the close calls were quite close enough…as we’ve still got a dozen people left and we’re coming up on 1/2 way through the season.

Tonight’s game (yikes!) is Patriots/Dolphins.  Lots of people still have Miami available, so go ahead and get that pick in by kickoff if you dare!!!!  Otherwise, in by end of day on Friday.

2015 Week 7 picks

Hello footballers,

Sorry for the late post with picks.  We had a swim meet take up quite a good deal of our time this weekend.  But, the kids did all right, so it’s all good.

Initially it looked like this week would be all Arizona and Atlanta.  But then, Kevin goes and sneaks in with Seattle – and has been sitting pretty since their win on Thursday night.  Other games in the mix this weekend:  Miami, St. Louis and New England.  Who know’s what’s gonna happen!

Good luck to everyone!

Week 6 Results: Everyone’s a winner

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Well, despite many late-game efforts to upset the picks this week – everyone survived. There’s still 12 people in the pool.  But, lots of people are using up their “easy” choices, and week 7 is no picnic.

If you’ve got a hankering to pick the Seahawks or 49ers, then I need your pick by kick off on Thursday.  Otherwise, you’ve got until end of day Friday.  Kevin said that it’s a tough week.

And, since we don’t have much to discuss, let me throw out there that a few people have mentioned the lack of trash talking this year.  Maybe it’s because Mary doesn’t have enough internet access, or because Charlie Hergenrother has nice manners.  Either way – y’all shouldn’t feel so compelled to hold back.

That’s all.  Good luck Royals and Cubbies.

2015 Week 6 Picks

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone is having a good week.  Around here we grumbled about the Rangers’ unravelling at the end of the series with the Blue Jays and are now cheering for the Cubs.  Randomly, both kids were also given assignments to build catapults – so there has been a lot of marshmallow flinging going on.

There are 12 people left in the football pool, and 4 different picks this week, although there is a strong majority pulling for the J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets!  I’m in that camp, so let’s gooooooooo!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow…..well everyone who picked the Jets anyway.

2015 Week 5 Results: A lot of squeakers

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Well, yesterday’s games caused quite the shake up in our pool.  So many close games in the 6 that were picked, and not all of them had the good guys winning.  Congrats to those who rested easy with the Green Bay and Arizona wins.  For everyone else, it was a nail biter.  I wish you could have seen Kevin watching the end of the Rangers and Giants at the same time in total disbelief that they were both going to lose right at the same time.  So, the last minute Giants touchdown came as a bit of a relief.

Others were not so lucky. This week spelled a first strike for Celia when the Ravens lost in overtime.  Welcome to the one-strike club, lady.  And, with the Bears’ win over the Chiefs, the pool has seen the elimination of Charlie Nemmers, Adam, Mary, and three of the four Hergenrothers.  I hope that Dana is running around high-fiving herself for being the last Hergenrother standing.  Well done, Dana!

The Thursday night game this week is Saints and Falcons.  A couple of people still have Atlanta available, and same goes for New Orleans.  So, if you want to get that game, please let me know before kick off.  Otherwise, by end of day Friday.

Also – a friendly reminder.  If you have not sent your payment – please do so.  Trying to get ten bucks out of someone who has already lost their chance of winning the pot is like trying to pry a slice of cherry pie out of the hands of Howie Senn.  And, now that everyone has at least one strike, that’s a reality for us all.  For realz:  send in your $10.  You know who you are.  Thanks!

Ok, everyone have a good week and GO RANGERS!!!!!
