2017: Week 17. This one is for ALL the marbles

Posted on by • 0 comment

Happy New Year Footballers,

After 16 hard fought weeks of serious football scrum, we come down to the final weekend.  Mary and Molly have spent hours doing critical analysis, checking with their bookies, and building shrines to the football gods to come up with their picks.  Or, maybe they just checked the point spreads and went with who they had left.

Either way, this weekend is for all the marbles.  3 picks, in order of confidence, and then point totals if necessary to break the tie.

Good luck to both – it truly has been an impressive season.

And, for those who don’t get to play this weekend, but appreciate a good puzzle solving session, here’s the Nemmers clan in Columbia after solving a pair of escape rooms!  So much fun!

2017: Week 16 – It’s the Panthers!

Merry Christmas Footballers!

Mary and Molly BOTH lost last week – insane with different picks so the pool moves This week both Mary and Molly picked Carolina, so obviously no winner will be crowned before Christmas.

Because we need to get to a winner before the end of the season – and that’s next week  – here are the rules for next week.

Molly and Mary will both pick:

  1.  Pick 3 games, and prioritize them as the best pick as #1, second best pick as #2 and worst pick as #3.  All three still have to be teams you have not chosen.
  2.  Pick a total points for each of these games.

If both win pick #1, we’ll go to pick #2,
If both win pick #2 then we go to pick #3
If both win all 3 picks then we go back and look at total points using the same logic – whomever has the closest to total points (over or under) for their #1 pick is the winner
If total points on game #1 is a tie then we go to total points for game #2
If total points for game #2 is a tie then we go to total points for game #3
If total points for game #3 is a tie – then the season is a tie and we split the winnings!

I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas!  We went and looked at the craziest Christmas light house last night.  Mom (Judy) would have been impressed at their ability to not leave a single flat surface undecorated. (And look closely, that’s the head of the old “Big Tex” for the State Fair over the doorway.)

2017: Week 15 Picks: the battle rages on

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I’m not quite sure how it happened, but mid-day Sunday, I thought Mary had this thing locked up after the Bengals fell to the Bears and all the Brady and the Patriots had to do was bit the lowly Dolphins on Monday night.  But, noooo-oo. That was not what the football gods had in mind.

So, here at the 2017 scrum the battle rages on.  This week Mary takes a trick out of Molly’s bag of tricks and going with Jacksonville.  Molly going with the “who’s playing the Browns?” pick of Baltimore.  It will be interesting to see who shows up in each of these games.

Good luck to you both!

2017: Week 14 Picks (and week 13 results)

Happy Holidays Footballers!

We hope that you are having a great December.

Last week, the Chargers dominated the Browns, sending both Mary and Molly into week 14.  But, they’ve mixed it up, picking different teams this week – Mary’s going with Tom Brady and the Patriots to beat the Dolphins on the road, and Molly’s going with the Bengals to beat the Bears.  Should be exciting!

This week we’re celebrating Fletcher’s confirmation here in Dallas.  Last week Mom and Dad were in Champaign celebrating with Molly for hers.  Lots to celebrate and some nice family time together.

Good luck to Molly and Mary!

2017 Week 13 Picks (and week 12 results)

Hello Footballers,

We’ve still got Mary and Molly in the race, as they both picked winners in week 12.  This week, it’s the LA Chargers that better deliver… except they both picked them.  So,  no change in status this week.  If they both pick the same team next week, we may have to come up with some type of tie breaker.  But, I’ll spell that out ahead of time.  Doesn’t seem fair to drop it on the players now.

Good luck to Molly and Mary – and to everyone else who is rooting for a team this weekend.  Now get out there and go look at some Christmas lights! ‘Tis the season!

2017: Week 12 Picks

Gobble Gobble Footballers!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  We did all right here in Dallas – with a 3:1 people to pie ratio (Plus an banana cream pie for Jim’s birthday on Friday).

We are down to just Mary and Molly, and they are keeping it interesting by making different picks this week.  Mary with Atlanta to beat Tampa Bay and Molly is going with Tom Brady and the Pats to beat the fins in Miami.  Good luck to you both.

Also, because we had so many players consolidated in a couple locations this weekend, I am adding a couple of pictures today.  One is from Arlington of Jim, Kevin and Team Sherburne (Margie and John). They were told to look tough, and only Kevin complied.  And, thanks to Dad for taking pictures of Gerri and Joel as well as Dan and Meredith in Cincinnati this weekend while they were all together – so nice to see all those smiling faces!

2017: Week 11 Results – it’s M M Good!

Hello Footballers,

Well, I’m not sure exactly what got into Kansas City, but the Giants beat them in overtime, eliminating Charlie Hergenrother and Team Sherburne, and giving Mary her first strike.

Clearly that makes Molly’s Jacksonville pick the PICK OF THE WEEK!  Nice work Molly!

So, we’re down to the two M’s: Mary and Molly.  They both have one strike.  There’s 7 weeks to go, so good luck to both!

This week there are A LOT of Thursday games.  And, since there are only 2 of you, I’m not going to type them all up.  Here’s a link:  NFL week 12  Good luck to you both!

And, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all.  We truly have much to be thankful for….but chatting with you all about football definitely makes my list!

2017 Week 11 Picks (and week 10 results)

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone is having a good November.  Last week everyone survived as Detroit and the Rams both won.

This week, we’ve got more of a “Who is playing the bad teams?” strategy going with 3 picks for Kansas City to beat the Giants and Molly’s renegade pick of Jacksonville to beat the Browns.  Both are away games for the favored teams, so anything can happen!

And, I gotta give it to Molly’s bold pick, as I checked and NO ONE – not once in the 6 years of our pool has picked Jacksonville.  This is GROUND BREAKING!!  Way to go Molly!

Good luck to all!  Travel Safe for Thanksgiving!

2017 Week 10 Picks

Hello Footballers….

We’ve crept into mid-November with still 4 people standing.  And, if you look at their history of picks this season, they might be using the same methodology – as lots of similar picks in this bunch.  Week 10 is no different, with Mary and Team Sherburne picking the LA Rams over Houston and both Hergenrothers going with Detroit over the reliably bad Browns.

Good luck to all…

2017 Week 9 Results: Down to 4

Hello Footballers,

Sorry for the late post this week.  I just lost track.  I hope everyone is good and enjoying the light in the mornings now that we’re in Daylight savings.

Last week there wasn’t much to see, but we did sadly lose Gerri with her pick of Houston.  That means we’re down to just 4 contestants, and only Aunt Mary is un-de-feat-ed (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap!)

This week’s Thursday night game is the battle of the birds – Cardinals and Seahawks.  So, get those picks in by Thursday night before kickoff if you’re going with a feathered friend.  Otherwise, by the end of the day on Friday.

This week’s pictures are of Charlie N. receiving his “Patrick T. McCoy Education Professional of the Year” award from the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

The other picture is of Stephanie, Chad and Gabe Senn.   I’ll leave it you to try and tell which picture is which.
