Scrum 2023 Week 4 Picks

Posted on by • 0 comment

Welcome to week four! It seems clear that the Buffalo-Miami game is the game of the week. Not only is it a match up between two good teams, we have a large number of power picks for both teams. I can’t wait to see how this unfolds. In the other two games, Cleveland and LA Rams seem to the power pick favorites. Will this be a week of big upsets? Or will the favorites prevail? Is it possible for Kevin to earn more than 1 point?

Best of luck to everyone who made the same picks as me.

This weekend’s picture features Mary, Virginia (Whoosie) and Bill on their way to Ireland. They’ll be touring Ireland and parts the UK. Who knew a flight could look like so much fun!

Cheers!

Scrum 2023 Week 3 Results

Oh my goodness, were those some ugly games? Some of these teams just can’t get out of their own way with all the mistakes. Fortunately for some of our players, none of that matters because they could see clearly through the chaos and pick winners. The Sherburnes only missed 1 game among the three players, with Margie and Bishop getting perfect scores and now resting comfortably among the overall leaders.

On the flip side, if your last name is Nemmers you probably had a tough week. Congrats to Whoosie for keeping a safe distance from the rest of the clan. Being a compassionate commissioner, I decided to stand small with the Nemmers and lurk along the bottom of the pool.

This week we feature our perfectionists. While I wish nothing but success in life for this branch of the family, I will sleep well if there’s a football stumble or two in their weeks ahead 🙂

This week’s games are: Dolphins@Bills, Ravens@Browns, Rams@Colts

All the games are at noon CT, so it will be like ripping a band-aid to get through them and see the result.

Picks are due Friday at midnight. Don’t make me send the hired goons out to rough up any procrastinators.

cheers!

Scrum 2023 Week 3 Picks

I’m running late again. It took a bit more time to wrangle picks out of everyone this week. Here are the picks for week 3. The Vikings and Bengals are the popular power picks of the week. But I have the upmost respect for the five good citizens who doubled down on our beloved Steelers. I wish you much success.

If I made any data entry mistakes, please send a message.

cheers!

Scrum 2023 Week 2 Results

Welcome back. I hope everyone had a great weekend, even if you did not always enjoy your football teams. The football gods frowned on several of us (again!), but they were clearly pleased with two Carters, two Sherburnes and a Lillegard. I am not sure if they sacrificed chickens in some ancient backyard barbecue ritual or ate lima beans as their TV snack. Whatever the sacrifice, it worked!

The updated rankings are below with Cecilia and Margie at the top, laughing at the rest of us.

This week’s picks are: Chargers@Vikings, Steelers@Raiders, Rams@Bengals

For this week’s photo gallery, we offer some awesome pics from the Colorado Carters. We have photos of Calvin enjoying the lake and Gabe’s USMC adventures! Gabe is on the left in the group shot. Stephanie and Chad must be so proud.

Scrum 2023 Week 2 Picks

Sorry for the late post. It’s been a very busy week in Dallas. Cincinnati and Miami are the hot picks of the week, but once again every team was picked by several people.

Good luck to everyone!

Scrum 2023 Week 1 Results: Oof

Do you remember the past two seasons when Josh Allen was unstoppable and the Bills looked great? Do you remember when the Bears were favored by 1.5 points over the Packers in week one? Do you remember when the Giants used to show up for their contests? Do you recall when Aaron Rodgers was hyped to take the Jets to the Super Bowl? Apparently, all of that was thrown out the window in week one this season.

Congratulations to Molly on crafting a perfect opening week. What a way to start the season!

And for those of us who struggled, welp… it’s only one week…

Week one results are below. Your picks for week two are: BAL@CIN; MIA@NE; IND@HOU.

Picks are due Fri midnight. Cheers!

Scrum 2023 Week 1: The Picks Are In

Posted on by • 0 comment

Welcome everyone to a fresh season where the dreams of scrum glory are alive and well. We have a nice roster of 26 competitors this year ready to show their stuff. Who will win? Will it be you? Or is this the launch of a 5-year Kevin Dynasty? Anything is still a real possibility.

I hope everyone got a chance to catch the season opener on Thursday where Detroit traveled to KC to deliver the upset. What a way to kick off the season. If anyone was thinking about jumping on the Lions bandwagon, I believe there are many many good seats still available.

This weeks picks focused around national TV games. I think it’s probably been a generation or two since the Bears were last favored over the Packers, even if it is just a smidge. And it looks like a busy weekend in New York. We had a good mix of picks in all three games and I believe all six teams were selected as a power pick. This should be a juicy start to the scrum.

The picks are below. Good luck!

Football Season Is Here!

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2023 Nemmers Scrum season! As you may remember (or have chosen to forget), Dan Mazza took home the crown last year, bringing further glory to the Cincinnati contigent. His  victory photo is pasted below. After spending the past couple years in Ohio, I think everyone can agree it’s time to bring the trophy back to Texas! We will see how the season unfolds.

The crowd shot down the proposed rule change, so we will proceed with the old rulesetl.

Here at the week 1 games. I need a pick for each game with one tagged as your super pick (worth 3 points).

  • GB @ CHI
  • DAL @ NYG
  • BUF @ NYJ

For this first week, I decided to go with the national TV games a game of interest. Week one is always full of surprises. Are the underdogs actually the better teams? We will find out.

Picks are due Friday before midnight. Email me or text. The rule refresher is at the bottom of this message for anyone who needs it.

Good luck!

Kevin

Rules:

  • Pick winners in 3 designated games each week, where one game is marked as your Super-Pick.
  • 1 point for wins, 3 points for superpick wins (zero points for a tie).
  • Person with most points at the end of the regular season wins the pot.
  • $10 to play the season.
  • Selections are due each Friday before midnight.
  • I’ll send reminders if your picks are missing, but if I don’t reach you in time and you have no picks for a given week, that is on you, and not me.
    • At some point, I will get bored and stop sending reminders.

Nemmers Family Scrum 2023 – are you in?

Posted on by • 0 comment

Greetings football humans!

It is that time of year again to prepare for the Nemmers Family Scrum. Are you in?

As you may notice, I am not Emily. Our beloved commish is taking a break and passed me the torch. Since I seem to have some extra time on my hands, I accepted. I will do my best not to dishonor the bronze La-Z-Boy.

The first week of the NFL season is a few weeks away, so it’s time to get organized.  This season we will keep the core format of the previous couple seasons, with one added twist.  The format is designed to be quick without requiring a lot of sports knowledge. Here’s the highlights of that system:

  • Pick winners in 3 designated games each week, where one game is marked as your Super-Pick.
  • 1 point for wins, 3 points for superpick wins (zero points for a tie).
  • Person with most points at the end of the regular season wins the pot.
  • $10 to play the season.
  • Selections are due each Friday before midnight.
  • I’ll send reminders if your picks are missing, but if I don’t reach you in time and you have no picks for a given week, that is on you, and not me.
    • At some point, I will get bored and stop sending reminders.
  • The twist? Consider the season like a long climb up the Cliffs of Insanity. After mid-season, we will lighten the load and start dropping a couple players from bottom each week. You must claw your way up the pack to stay in the race. I will include specific details once we see how many players we have.

If you think you may want to play, here’s what you need to do now:

  1. Wrestle with your conscious and determine that you do want to participate
  2. Send me a notification that you are going to play – either via email or via text.
  3. Send me a couple photos to share on anything interesting you’ve been up in 2023
  4. Pay up. I strive to make it easy for people to send me money, so I am flexible. $10 checks can be mailed, or beamed via PayPal, or Venmo or Zelle. If you have a fat stack of crisp dollar bills you’d like to slip me under the table… that works too.

I tried my best to reach everyone. If I’ve accidentally left off a name or you notice I am using a bad email address, please let me know.

Please respond back whether you are interested or not. And let me know if the proposed twist is evil or delicious.

cheers!

Kevin
