2021 Week 6 Results, Week 7 Picks: Week of the Giant Spreads

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Week 6 was quite a doozy.  Somehow the Cowboys managed to pull it out on the road and outsmart the Pats.  Maybe they really are as good as the guys on the local sports talk seem to think.

Big props to Calvin, Whoosie and Dana for their perfect guesses.  Hopefully a 5 out of 5 takes away a little of the sadness of a Bears loss to the dreaded Packers for Whoosie and for Dana she’s one step closer to catching Charlie. And nice work to all the people who got 4s this week.  Some of those big scores helped people to move up.

Charlie H. holds on to his lead, but Calvin and Bill are now right on his heels. One week of upsets and we could have a lot of reshuffling at the top of this thing.

Coming up with the choices for week 7 was tough.  There are soooo many games with double digit spreads. I can’t think of another time that we had a 12 and a 15 point spread in the same week.  And, I try to pick games that aren’t just the battle of the losers, but this week, the only close games were from teams that were mediocre at best.  I tried, folks, I truly did.  Here’s what we have to pick in Week 7:

Panthers v Giants
Eagles v. Raiders
Colts v. 49ers

Get those picks in by end of day Friday.  This weekend I am working at an early polling location, so I my email timing may be wonky,  but I promise to get it out to ya.

For your viewing enjoyment, here’s two photos from our Milwaukee contingent.  One is of Paige playing flag football (and clearly dominating the play) and the other is of Bill and Whoosie out having a beer and enjoying the gorgeous weather this past weekend at a bar near their new place downtown.

And, since the Steelers have a bye this weekend, I don’t have a cheer this weekend.  Just have a good one, everybody!

2021 Week 6: London Calling

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers!

I totally forgot that the Miami v Jacksonville game was in London this week, so we are getting an early start.  Rushing to get this out before halftime of that game.

Lots of people with the same picks this weeks – props to Dan and Fletcher for being bold and taking the road less traveled.

Let’s see what the Cowboys do…as there are a lot of power picks riding on that game.  Clearly y’all must know something I do not.

Good luck and GO STEELERS!!!

2021 Week 5 Results and Week 6 picks: Here Come the Cowboys

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Well, another exciting week was in the books.  Jameis Winston showed up, and Patrick Mahomes not so much.  All the same, congrats to Cassie, Margie, Adam and Gerri for getting all 5 points this week.  It was unpredictable, and y’all did great! It definitely moves around the standings a bit too…with Cassie and Margie pulling ahead of Calvin, Bill and Fletcher.  Still, it is early in the season and a lot could happen.

For week 6, I am trying to keep it interesting.  And, finally the Cowboys make it to the pool.  Choices for this week are:

Dolphins v Jaguars
Vikings v Panthers
Cowboys v Patriots

And…just because it’s pretty cool, here’s a picture of the Anne of Green Gables doll that Violet crocheted for me for my birthday.  Try not to be jealous.

Please get your picks in by end of day Friday.  And despite an injury to Juju Smith-Schuster: GO STEELERS!

2021 Week 5 Picks: In the Thick of It

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Here we are at week 5: right in the thick of the season.  Lots of good teams, lots of good choices. It was exciting that 5 of our 6 teams were picked as a power pick. And, all six teams were selected to win. So, I do anticipate seeing more movement for the pool. All these spreads are so close, but the final scores have not been, so I think it is good that they still play the games.

Earlier this weekend, Fletcher, Vi and I took a quick road trip to San Antonio to check out Trinity University (which is so cool!), and got to spend the evening with the Sherburnes. We realized that it may have been the biggest gathering of folks from the scrum – so here’s a shot of all of us + super-cat Tommy.  Thanks again to John, Margie and Madison for hosting, we had a great time!

Enjoy the games today.  Unlikely that they will be as exciting as the Texas football games yesterday, but you just never know!  GO STEELERS!!!

2021 Week 4 Results, Week 5 Picks: No Time for Losers

Posted on by • 3 comments

Hello Footballers,

Well, week 4 was better than week 3. That’s for sure.  Big shout out to Charlie, Cassie, John and Dana for perfect scores.  With his pick, John made a big leap in the standings, but Charlie is slowly pulling away from the pack.  Will his good fortune continue? Only time will tell.

For week 5, I listened to the complainers of last week and only selected games that did not have anyone with a losing record.  Maybe a few 2-2 teams, but no losers.  Eww, losers.

The week 5 picks are:

Saints v Football Team (aka Redskins)
Bills v Chiefs
Browns v Chargers

Please get your picks in by the end of the day Friday.  And…if you have not paid yet – get on it!  It’s only $10 people!

Last but not least, here are a few more birthday pictures that came in this past week.  Mary celebrated a birthday that ends in a 5 with her favorite (and very tall) grandsons a few weeks back, Adam made it to KC to see the Royals during their final week of the season on Sunday, and, the Dallas Manteeth celebrated my birthday with a visit to see our good friend Big Tex at the State Fair. Yay for birthdays! We all look GOOD!

Go Steelers!

2021: Week 4 Picks. Birthdays and Bellyachers

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Let’s start by saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Dana and Adam today.  One of these folks is now old enough to buy beer, and the other has been buying beer for quite awhile. Either way, we hope celebrating is happening for you both!  (And special shout out to Dianne who was the ONLY person who responded to my request for birthday photos.  Which is why we get to see this adorable picture of Dana at her 16th birthday).

Here are the picks for this week.  Yes, I know they were hard.  There was a lot of belly aching going on with submissions. And, while I’m sorry if they are tough to choose, I think we can all agree that the pool would be a lot less fun if there were obvious choices and everyone picked the same thing. That for sure didn’t happen this week, as all 6 teams in our pool had at least one person make them their power pick.  Lots of head to head match ups.  So, while the picking was hard, seeing how it all shakes out should actually be kinda fun.

Go STEELERS!!!!

2021 Week 3 Results / Week 4 Choices: Big Brains in Milwaukee

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone had a good weekend.  So many close games.  Loved to see that record field goal kick from Baltimore. Sadly for the pool, most of the excitement worked against us.  Not true for both Heidi and Mary who managed to scavenge 4 points in this brutal week.  So, while Charlie H. remains atop the leaderboard, the ladies from Milwaukee made a great showing and are near the top as well.   (A quick note, Heidi picked Atlanta for her power pick and I had marked it wrong on the original pick sheet, but I double checked and changed it.)

Here are the current overall standings:

For week 4, the matchups are:

Lions v Bears
Colts v Dolphins
Raven v Broncos

As we have several birthdays around this time – added bonus if you send in a favorite birthday memory or picture with your selections for me to share with this week’s picks.

Good luck to everyone! GO STEELERS (although my cheer isn’t working nearly as good as it did last year.)

2021 Week 3 Picks: The Bingy Bangy Choice

Hello Footballers,

Week 3 should be interesting.  For ATL / NYG – someone will finally get off the schnide with a win.  And for LAC v TB someone’s perfect season will come to an end.  So, while we may still have lots of weeks to perfect our game picking strategies, for these 4 teams, there is a lot on the line this weekend.

Speaking of interesting, each week when the picks come in, Bill comes up with a different name for the “Power Pick”.  Past favorites have been “The Stupendous pick” “The Big Fandoozle” and “The Big Naboo” (somewhere Princess Leia is smiling).  Anyway, this week he went with “Bingy Bangy Choice.” That has a nice ring to it.  Thanks Bill for keeping it interesting.

Here are some pictures of people getting out and about.  The Lillegards and Mary did a 10 Mile “Ride on the Wild Side” bike trek in Milwaukee. And, they look so fresh and happy I am guessing this was a ‘before’ picture.  The other photo here is from the group who gathered for the Minnesota NAMI walk.  It was supposed to be virtual, but they all got together to celebrate Andy and do some good for mental health.  Warms my heart to see all of you together.

Ok, everyone have a great week.  Go STEELERS!!!!

2021 Week 2 Results: Fortune Favored the Bold (too bad about his other picks)

Hello Footballers,

Well it was sure a fun week watching the Sunday night game come down to the wire.  As Violet said that as much as she didn’t want to lose any points, she had to respect Fletcher’s game for going with Baltimore.  His bold choice kept him afloat with 3 points.  Which really means that Charlie H. and Adam were even more impressive for scoring 4 points.  Props to them as well as Bill (our oldest) and Calvin (our youngest) for rounding out the top scorers at the end of the week. And, for the bottom half of the pool – let’s just all pretend this week never happened.

I am using these early weeks to try and make sure all teams are represented.  This is hard to do as really bad teams always have a big spread.  But, by picking some really tough games this week, I’m at least able to add a few more teams to the mix.  You’re welcome.

The picks for week 3 are:

Falcons v Giants
Buccaneers v Rams
Seahawks  v Vikings

Make sure to get those picks in by the end of the day on Friday.   Bonus points if you also send a picture of what you are doing this week.  I have a couple queued up, but could always use more.

Have a great week!

2021 Week 2 Picks: Mahomes is the man

Hello Footballers,

It’s week 2, and we may not know much about which teams will deliver and which teams will flounder, but collectively, there is one thing we all THINK we know, and that’s the dominance of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. They are the overwhelming power pick for the week, with all but 5 people picking them as their big picker.  Big shoutouts to those who went in a different direction: Fletcher for going against the KC insanity with a Baltimore pick, and  a few folks with the SF power pick, and Dan with the Eagles.  Should be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Speaking of Dan – he’s back to join us.  There was a technical snafu that prevented me from knowing he’d signed up until after Week 1 had finished up. So he’s here, and ready to make a splash to get back into things. So glad you’re here, Dan!

I hope you all enjoy watching football today.  I have some fun football picks to share – one is of Dianne and Paul at the Notre Dame game last weekend, and you may have caught the “Big Drum” controversy at the Purdue v ND game yesterday that had me remembering the time Kevin and I went to a big Purdue / ND game back when Drew Brees was the QB for the Boilermakers and I got to see the legendary drum for myself.  Good times!

Keep on sending your pics….we all love seeing you!

GO STEELERS!!!!!
