Week 1 Results: Bears, not so much

Well,

Week 1 is in the books and we had a few good teams go down, and the Bears lost too.  And, really those of us pulling for Pittsburg and the Eagles were sweating it out too.  Really, Philly: zero points at halftime?  Really Steelers, who were those guys on the field in the second half?

Anyway, Barry O., Grandpa Bill, Charlie H, Charlie N. Jim, Mary, Sam and Whoosie all got a strike.  Better luck next week.

As I am taking until Wednesday, the picks for this week are already starting to come in – thanks.  Steelers are Ravens are Thursday night, otherwise, you can make a pick by Friday, end of day.

Week 1: Bears and Birds rule the day?

Posted on by • 0 comment image

Hello Footballers!

Thanks everyone for getting your picks in on time this first week.  You must be eager to get started.  Let’s take a minute to welcome our newest players:  Sam Carter (Son of Stephanie, grandson of Mary and Howie) and Sydney Wickman (girlfriend of Tyler, and like a daughter to the Springfield Nemmers Clan.)  We wish you the best of luck and look forward to taking your money.

The good news:  all the picks are in and we have a nice selection of choices, Jets, Redskins, Lions, 49ers, Bears, Steelers and mostly, the Eagles. The Bad News:  Barry O. thought he’d go out on a limb early, and took the season’s first strike with the Packers on Thursday night.

Thanks too for everyone who got their $10 in.  Please drop that check in the mail if you haven’t done so already.

You may have noticed that the Scrum has switched to a new platform.  The hope is that this site will make for easier editing on my end, and easier commenting and following on your end.  For the most part, the comments should be way easier.  Me and my tech staff are currently working on a “click here to subscribe” button so that you can be immediately notified when new things (posts, comments, pictures of Uncle Bill) are posted.  So, update your link to check to scrum.manteeth.com and we’ll go from there.

Have a great opening Sunday!  Here’s hoping for the Eagles. (Man, that is something I never thought I would say).

Hello Fearless Football Betters,

It is that time of year.  No…not back to school.  It’s Football Pool time!

And, for those of us in Dallas who have had no baseball worth watching, it can’t come too soon.

So, here’s the deal.  The first week of the season kicks off Thursday, September 4th, with most games being on that Sunday.

Please let me know if you’re in, and get a pick to me before that time.

The cost to play is still just a slim $10.

Also – Dana, the Mazzas, Sam Carter, Erika Lillegard, any other relatives?  If there are people that are in any shape or form related to me that are not on this list and you think would like to play, please send this along to them as well.

The League’s handy tech support crew – Kevin Mantooth – has snazzied up the website.  You can check out the full rules there:

http://scrum.manteeth.com/rules/

Really, things are the same as last year:  Pick one winner each week, never pick the same team twice all season.  On your second strike you are out.  The biggest difference is that this year, if you pick a team that ties, that is not a win, so it will count as a strike.

Ok.  Let me know if you’re in.  I hope so.  I am ready to take all your money!!!!

Week 12 Results: The End, My Friends!

Posted on by • 0 comment

It seems hard to believe that just two weekends ago there were still 11 people in the scrum.  I guess that’s why they play the games.

Congratulation to Team Sherburne – the dark horses from San Antonio who beat out a bunch of people they only know of mostly through holiday dinner table discussions with their favorite niece-in-law.  John and Margie went from worst to first:  in 2012 they were eliminated after week 2.  This year, I think John hired a bookie and spent the off season studying rivalry games, the benefits of the 3-4 over the 4-3 and memorized which rivalry games to steer clear of.  Whatever it was – congrats!  We all hope you have a FABULOUS time at Disneyworld.

Thanks to everyone who played.  I really love getting to hear from everyone each week – y’all are  especially funny when you lose.  Our family is all very hilarious in the face of defeat. I’m not sure what to make of that, but I am glad that everyone took the time to play and hope everyone joins again next year.

Have a great Thanksgiving!  Eat a lot and travel safe.  Kevin and I are hosting, so I will give John and Margie their winnings on Thursday.

Thanks again for a great season!!!!!

Week 12: Does it come down to this?

With only 4 players left in the pool, it is interesting that there are 3 different picks this week.  Desperation, maybe?  Just a lack of choices?  Either way, Team Sherburne is sitting pretty after Drew Breese and the Saints got a win in Atlanta on Thursday.  So, now it’s down to the Lions and the Chiefs.  Should be an interesting day in the Hergenrother house.

Good luck to all!

Week 11 Results: Better late than never

Hi footballers,
Sorry so late getting these out.  The good news is that everyone remained alive, although I am betting Paul got a little nervous in the first half of the Cincy game.

Tonight’s game is New Orleans / Atlanta  – all other picks in before end of day Friday. (Thanks to the Sherburne for already sending their pick and being too nice to point out I hadn’t posted results.)

Good luck to you all.  Try to eat less this weekend so that you can start making room in your tummies for Turkey day!

Week 11 Picks: You know these are the Cardinals from Arizona, right?

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

It’s down to 4 fierce competitors, and the picking were slim this week.  Paul has broken from the pack with his Cincy pick.  Will the Bengals be enough for him to regain his title?  And, did everyone else realize that the Cardinals they picked weren’t the really good ones from St. Louis?  Does Jacksonville have it in them to go on a 2 game winning streak?  If they do, surely there will be some screaming at the t.v. today!

Good luck to all.

Week 10 Results: Boom goes the Dynamite*

Posted on by • 0 comment

What a blood bath, footballers!  The Jaguars unleashed the Kraken on the Titans and spelled the end of the road for Adam, Bailey, both Bills, both Charlies, and Kevin.  Kaboom!

….no apologies necessary for Joel, as his pick of NYG (garnering only their third win of the season), has him laughing all the way to the win column.

Still standing in all this rubble:  Paul, Dianne, Joel and Team Sherburne.  They have a few good teams left to pick among them, so it should be a good race to the finish!

The Thursday night game is Indy against Tennessee, but after the shellacking the Rams put on the Colts yesterday,  I can’t imagine that anyone will want to pick them to exact revenge on your failed Titans.  If you do – picks before kick off.

Week 9 results: How ’bout them Cowboys?

Posted on by • 0 comment

Well, all you Dallas-pickers seem to have way better mojo than I ever did picking the Cowboys.  Congrats!  No one eliminated this week, but we did have a strike for Uncle Bill – bringing it to just Paul, Dianne and Team Sherburne who have a clean record.  Nuts!

With injuries stacking up, bullying allegations being thrown around and lots of good teams playing each other (Denver vs. KC comes to mind) there should be some tough choices in the next couple of weeks.

The Thursday game this week is Washington vs. Minnesota. If you want that pick, then you need to send it to me before kick off.  We’ve been having a little trouble with getting picks in on time, so for this week:  all other picks by the end of the day Friday or you’re getting Jacksonville.  Capiche?

Good luck to everyone.  Hope you all had good Halloweens.  Here’s a picture of our Giant pumpkin that we carved last minute….
