2017 Week 10 Picks

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers….

We’ve crept into mid-November with still 4 people standing.  And, if you look at their history of picks this season, they might be using the same methodology – as lots of similar picks in this bunch.  Week 10 is no different, with Mary and Team Sherburne picking the LA Rams over Houston and both Hergenrothers going with Detroit over the reliably bad Browns.

Good luck to all…

2017 Week 9 Results: Down to 4

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Sorry for the late post this week.  I just lost track.  I hope everyone is good and enjoying the light in the mornings now that we’re in Daylight savings.

Last week there wasn’t much to see, but we did sadly lose Gerri with her pick of Houston.  That means we’re down to just 4 contestants, and only Aunt Mary is un-de-feat-ed (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap!)

This week’s Thursday night game is the battle of the birds – Cardinals and Seahawks.  So, get those picks in by Thursday night before kickoff if you’re going with a feathered friend.  Otherwise, by the end of the day on Friday.

This week’s pictures are of Charlie N. receiving his “Patrick T. McCoy Education Professional of the Year” award from the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

The other picture is of Stephanie, Chad and Gabe Senn.   I’ll leave it you to try and tell which picture is which.

2017 Week 9 Picks: Will the Saints Go Marching In?

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

This week everyone is picking New Orleans to beat beleaguered Tampa Bay….except the Rebel Gerri.  She’s hoping that the Texans can borrow some of the World Champion Astro’s mojo and beat the Colts.  Way to take a stand, Gerri!

The good news for the rest of us is these are both early games on Sunday, so we’ll know if the pool has been wiped out or not before we sit down for Sunday supper. And with no baseball AND no Steelers to watch this weekend, we may even tune in to see Drew Brees take a snap or two.

Good luck to all!

2017 Week Eight Results – Mary Squeaks By

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone had a happy Halloween.

It was a great weekend of football (go Steelers!) and baseball (did anyone else stay up to watch game 6?).  All 5 remaining players stayed alive with wins by the Vikings, Saints and Bengals.  Pick of the week definitely goes to undefeated Aunt Mary, who squeaked in a win to remain the only undefeated player left in the pool.  Nice work, Mary!

This week the battle rages on.  The Thursday night game is Bills and Jets, so if you are picking one of these teams I need picks by kickoff on Thursday evening.  Seems like there are some good picks left this week….but I bet most of that were thinking that in weeks 5 and 6 as well.  Good luck to everyone who’s left!

2017 Week 8 Picks

Hello Footballers,

With only 5 people left it’s a little surprising that we have 3 different games to think about. But, because I didn’t get this out, and someone at the NFL thought it was a good idea to have Minnesota playing in London, so I’m sure Charlie H, Molly and Team Sherburne are ready for me to post this so they can see what’s what.

Good luck to them, Gerri picking New Orleans over Chicago and Mary going with the Bengals over the Colts.

Happy Halloween y’all!  Send some spooky pics if you’ve got ’em.

2017 Week 7 Results: nothing to see here

Hi Footballers,

I hope you are having a good week.  This week all 5 players moved on….although Charlie H might have shorter fingernails after the way Tennessee squeaked out their OT win.

The Thursday night game this week is Dolphins/Ravens – so I’ll need those picks before kickoff…otherwise, by end of day Friday.  Bonus points for anyone who sends in Halloween party pics from over the weekend.

Since I didn’t get any pics from the outside this week, I’m sharing one of our family from the State Fair – Big Tex says hello!

2017 Week 7 Picks: Twin Cities or Lone Star?

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

Only 5 people left in the pool, but only 2 picks this week.  The Vikings / Raiders game and the Cowboys / 49ers are the only two that matter for the pool.  And, even that isn’t easy.

As John said when making his pick this week, “It seems like each week the underdog beats the higher ranked teams…” Too bad the rest of us couldn’t figure that out before the week 6 games – hah!

Good luck to everyone.  And go Astros!  They may be our enemy all season as Rangers fans, but I think we call agree that a.)Altuve is amazing, and b.) it’s more fun when the Yankees lose.

2017 Week 6 Results: What the Heck Just Happened?!?

Hello Footballers,

Everybody doing ok? If we all thought that New England and Pittsburgh were sure things in previous weeks, we surely thought those double digit spreads for Denver and Atlanta were money in the bank.

But, not so fast!

The only two players to survive the week were Aunt Mary and Molly Hergenrother!  And, those two losses, plus the loss of KC to Pittsburgh and spelled the end of the road for Adam, Emily, Howie, Joel, Stephanie, Tyler and Dan. Boom!  Charlie H., Gerri and team Sherburne also all sustained their first strike, leaving Mary as the only perfect picker after a mere 6 weeks.  This is what Mary is thinking:

Not as easy as it looks, is it?  Well done to Mary and her bold pick of the Redskins.  Nice work to both her and Molly for surviving a very crazy week.

So, for you 5 remaining players….game on!  Thursday night’s game is Raiders and Chiefs, so if you want to pick that one, make sure you get it in before kick off, otherwise, by end of day Friday.

This weeks pictures bring you a few of our own family athletes….Gabe Carter – football player extraordinaire, and Whoosie – who completed the Des Moines half marathon and finished 4th of 17 in her age group.  Woo-hoo to you both!

2017: Week 6 Picks: birds and horses

Hello Footballers,

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend.

For the pool, it mostly comes down to Atlanta and Denver, as they are impacting 9 of the remaining 12 player picks.  We’ve also got an eye on Houston for Molly, Washington for Mary and KC for Joel.  We’ll see what happens, but I think we can all agree that this week was WAY EASIER to pick.

Best of luck to everyone!

2017 Week 5 results: And then there were 4

Hello Footballers,

What a rough week it was.  With Rothlisburger having the worst week of his career 6 people took a strike.  Sadly, Pittsburgh’s loss was a season ending strike for Dana, Dianne and Kevin. The old dudes took a fatal blow too, as Jim and Charlie N were both eliminated with their outlier picks of Buffalo and Detroit.  After the dust had settled, we’re now down to only 4 people without a strike:  Charlie H., Gerri, Team Sherburne, and Mary.

Me? I feel vindicated in my theory that I should never bet on the Steelers game or the Cowboys game, but was bummed that I wasn’t smart enough to not pick Detroit.

Pick of the week goes to the folks who picked Philly…as they are the only ones who didn’t get a strike in week 5.  Nice work.

This week’s Thursday game is  Eagles / Panthers ….maybe we should all just watch baseball instead. But, lots of people still have the Panthers available….so get those picks in by kickoff on Thursday.  Otherwise end of day Friday, please.

This week’s family news: a photo of Mom and Dad at their recent adventure to Chicago to see Hamilton, and a newslink that mention’s Paul’s work with his cancer fighting drug, PAC-1.
