2018 Week 7 Results: Not a strike to be found

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I hope everyone is having a good week.  I know all the players that are still in the hunt were at least off to a good start – as not a single strike was suffered again this week.  For those keeping score, that’s FOUR error-free weeks in a row.  Maybe I’m just crazy, but I think something’s gotta give.

This week’s Thursday night game is Miami v. Houston – not a bad choice, really.  So, if you want that one, please get your pick in before kick off.  Otherwise, get ’em in before the end of the day on Friday.  (We’ll be rockin’ out at the middle school Halloween party that night, so I won’t technically be checking until Saturday morning).

Good luck to everyone!

2018: Week 7 Picks (BOILER UP!!!!)

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

I know this post is late.  After 3 weeks of continual rain here in Dallas, the sun finally came out yesterday and it was the last weekend of the fair – so we played hooky from our weekend to-do list and went and ate our way through the sea of humanity that was also taking advantage of the nice weather.

And, then to top it all off – PURDUE CRUSHED OHIO STATE.  That’s a big time around here- Kevin and I stayed up when we got home from the fair to go back and watch the 4th quarter.  So, exciting!

Here’s the picks – Undefeated Gerri goes it alone on her Atlanta pick, but other games in play include the Rams, Chiefs, and Colts.  Good luck to everyone.

Here’s us at the Fair (with Big Tex keeping watch…)

And, here’s the Purdue fans storming the field…the strobe lights were the icing on the cake!

2018 Week 6 Results: We’re all winners here

Posted on by • 1 comment

Hello Footballers,

This week a lot of people got REEEAAALLLY lucky!  Thanks to the Texans for scoring off that Buffalo turnover with just seconds to go, for Tom Brady wiping out Mahone’s end-of-game heroics, and to the 49ers for letting Aaron Rodgers sneak out a win at the end of the Monday night game everybody survived. Not a strike among us this week. Good stuff all around.

For week 7 we’ve got Broncos/Cardinals for the Thursday night match up.  Get those picks in before kickoff if you are brave enough to pick it.  Otherwise, picks in by the end of the day Friday.

And, a special shout out to Charlie Nemmers who turned the big 75 this week.  (And, a favorite photo we pulled from an exciting visit he had to Casa Mantooth a few years back.)  Love ya, Dad.

2018 Week 6 Picks – Waitin’ until Monday Night

Posted on by • 0 comment

Hello Footballers,

It’s a super soaked rainy day here in Dallas.  I hope the sun is shining a bit wherever you are.

Here are the picks for week 6.  Looks like lots of people went with Green Bay, so we’ll be up late on Monday night to see how the pool shakes out.  Special props to Gerri for going alone with the Vikings.  After they burned so much of the pool, this seems especially bold.

Speaking of Gerri – here’s a picture of 4 of her grandkids. Thanks to Dan Mazza for sending it in!  Charlie Mazza looks esp. smart in his graduation gear.

You may notice on the pick sheet that Gabe C. has been eliminated…he picked the same team twice and I didn’t catch it until this week.  So sorry to see Gabe go – but let it serve as a good reminder to everyone still in it to start double checking to make sure you are not picking a team that you’ve chosen before.

Good luck to all!

2018 Week 5 Results – a perfect slate!

Hello Footballers,

Well it only took 5 weeks, but we finally had a round where no one took a strike.  Well done!  I hope that you also got a chance to see Drew Brees become the all time leading passer.  It’s good when the good guys get recognized (also  – go Purdue!)

This week’s Thursday game is Eagles v. Giants.  If you want that one, pick in before kickoff (tonight!)  Otherwise, by end of day Friday.

2018 Week 5 Picks

Hello Footballers,

Here we are at week 5, and Kevin and Dan are sitting pretty thanks to the pick of the early game on Thursday.  Still on the table are Carolina, Cincy and New Orleans.

Thanks to everyone for getting their picks in on time.  (Go Bengals!)

In celebration of birthdays – here’s a picture of Adam and me from sometime at the Lake.  Happy Birthday to Dana too – can’t believe she’s a senior in high school.  (Don’t look now but we’re all getting old).

2018 Week 4 Picks

Hello Footballers,

It’s been a busy couple of days!  I don’t have much pithy to say – but know it’s exciting to have everyone playing along.

Here’s the pick sheet, and a pick of the best looking folks in our group – Dana and Molly Hergenrother all dressed up for Homecoming.

2018 Week 3 Results: We shoulda all known better!

Dang it Footballers!

How did that just happen?  I do like Whoosie’s suggestion that we shouldn’t count the Minnesota loss because that was so bad it wasn’t really football.  But, sadly, that’s not how the Scrum works.

On the bright side – mad props to Gerri and Stephanie as the last two players without a strike. Impressive stuff, ladies!

On the bummer side – it’s time to say goodbye to some folks:  with the losses by the Vikings and Patriots the following players were eliminated: Adam, Charlie H., Charlie N., John & Margie, Paul, Tyler, Whoosie and Calvin.  For those keeping score, that means the other 10 players sustained their first strike.  This is probably also a good time to remind you to pay up!  If you have been eliminated – you still have to pay.

Week 4 games will only get trickier. Thursday night is Vikings v. Rams. I don’t think many have either of these as an option, but if you do and want to use it, make sure to get that pick in by kick off on Thursday.  Otherwise, end of the day Friday.

And, thanks to everyone who sent pictures.  Here’s a shot of the folks who were in Minnesota for the NAMI walk (So many people I love in that photo!) and also a Gabe Carter’s Sophomore year school photo.  Lookin’ good!

2018 Week 3 Picks: Hard to turn down a 17 point spread

Hello Footballers,

Well, there are 16 games this weekend, but there is only 1 with a 17 point spread. So, for the most part the Vikings were the favorite choice. If they lose to the Bills, then the pool will see quite a shakeup.  But, there were a few players who had already used up that choice, so we’ve got a smattering of other selections including the Bears, Eagles, Patriots and Jaguars.

Good luck to everyone!

2018 Week 2 Results: A Doozy of a Loss

Hello Footballers,

Well there was only one loss in the pool this week, but it was a doozy.  With Pittsburg’s horrible failure the Scrum has seen it’s first casualty.  Last year’s winner, Molly Hergenrother, has completed her 2018 run.  Such a bummer, but at least she can console herself with that big pile of money she’s sitting on from 2017.

Other close games ended just as you had all predicted.  So, yay for you all! But now it gets tricky:  will the teams that are horrible continue to stink?  Or, will the teams that were supposed to be good finally find their groove.  It should make for some heavier contemplation for week 3.

Week 3’s Thursday night is Jets/Cleveland.  If you are crazy enough to pick this game, I need your pick by Thursday before kickoff.  Otherwise, by end of day on Friday.

This week’s family photo is of Calvin Carter’s chicken!  A good looking clucker for sure! Thanks, Whoosie for sending that in. (please send in your photos to share too – with our without chickens.)

And, the tally:
